VOLUNTEERING FOR MAINCHANCE: FOOD SERVICES: WHAT TO DO The first step in volunteering is filling out and returning a volunteer application and background check form. There is a one-page informational sheet about the applications for your review. Forms can be found on our website, or by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator: (212) 883-0680 ext 108 After we receive the application, and complete the background check, we will plan to schedule you for the lunch shift (12:00pm-1:30pm) or the dinner shift (4:00pm-6:00pm), based on mutual availability. Important note: Due to the limited size of our kitchen, we can only take 3-4 volunteers per shift. Therefore, volunteers MUST be scheduled ahead of time. We also ask that you adhere to our dress code, which appears below. KITCHEN DRESS CODE: Closed-toe comfortable shoes; you will be standing up during your shift. Short or long-sleeved shirt (no tank tops or revealing clothing). Long pants or skirt, and clean overall appearance. If you are not feeling well on the day you are scheduled, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator or please call the facility and speak with security at the front desk (ext: 101). The safety and wellness of the other volunteers, our staff, and our clients is our utmost concern. WHAT TO EXPECT: When you arrive, our security desk will sign you in, and direct you to the Soup-Kitchen. The kitchen staff will give you instructions on your tasks. For any concerns or questions occurring during the course of your shift, the Volunteer Coordinator is available by contacting the security desk.
