HARD & SOFT

T E X T STEWART KELLER CELEBRATING DICHOTOMY A s the co-creative director of powerhouse brands Monse and Oscar de la Renta, Laura Kim is an important voice in today’s design industry. That is why she was an exciting partner to collaborate on Kohler’s recent “Design Changes Everything” campaign. Its imagery features Kim wearing a bespoke dress she designed, which was inspired by the sleek silhouette of Kohler’s Veil Smart Toilet in Honed Black. Kim’s original dress debuted during Monse’s Fall/Winter 2025 runway show at New York Fashion Week. The garment combines the graceful movement of flowing black chiffon with more rigid leather straps and a buckle detail—creating a juxtaposition of softness and structure that mirrors the sculptural curves and textual depth of the Veil Smart Toilet. The campaign invites viewers to consider the power of design to transform—to redefine everyday experiences and to bring beauty to unexpected places. “Uncover uncommon beauty in every curve, in every detail,” says Kim in one of the campaign’s commercial spots—as the dress billows gently beside the Veil. “Each moment holds more if you dare to chase it.” “Design Changes Everything” celebrates Kohler’s legacy of in- novation and Kim’s refined creations. HOT TO STAY WARM YOUR WAY TO WELLNESS

T E X T STEWART KELLER

Before yoga, a sauna can warm up muscles increasing fl ex ibil i t y for a better stretch.

F or the eighth year in a row, Finland has been named the happiest country in the world by the UN’s World Happiness Report. And while this is certainly due to a variety of factors, an important one may be the population’s love of saunas. The nation fa- mously boasts over 3 million of them in a country of just 5.5 million people. And people around the world are following their lead—bringing the latest technology to this 7,000-year-old tradition. Science has worked to quantify the benefits of time spent in the sauna. They tell us the heat and steam promote relaxation and reduce stress hormones. By increasing heart rate and blood flow in a way that is similar to moderate exercise, there may be benefits to your cardiovascular health. The heat can also help reduce inflammation—providing relief for complaints from post-workout aches to

chronic pain conditions. The sweating helps clear toxins from the body. A sauna session may also lead to improved sleep and better skin—potentially also boosting your immune system. So it makes sense that Kohler—a company known for its commitment to at-home wellness solutions—is now adding saunas to their excellent assemblage of offerings. Both indoor and outdoor Kohler saunas are built with precision craftsman- ship and advanced engineering. Available in small (up to three occupants), medium (up to five), and large (up to six), they have been designed to com- plement a wide range of styles and spaces. Each Kohler sauna will feature high-quality refined wood finishes, extra-thick walls and glass, and advanced insulation for optimal heat retention. Powerful freestanding heaters, dual thermostats, and aerotherm ventilation keep the temperatures

both accurate and consistent while also helping to ensure efficiency. Meanwhile, the controls are easy to use yet comprehensive. Adjust time, tempera- ture and ambience—including a sunset lighting system—via a sleek touch screen. When it comes to placement, an indoor sauna can either stand alone or be integrated into the walls of a home gym, spa suite, or other recreation- al area as part of a new build or renovation project. While the interior is Scandinavian Spruce, the exte- rior can be Scandinavian Spruce or Graphite Gray. Outdoor models are built to stand strong against the elements—featuring triple-insulated waterproof ceiling and dual-pane glass. Also offered with a Scandinavian Spruce interior, outdoor sauna exte- rior options include Douglas Fir or Weathered Gray Spruce. Locks on both the door and control box offer added privacy and security. So whether you are looking to warm up before your next workout or chill out at the end of a long day, consider whether heat therapy might be the next addition to your wellness routine at home. If so, look to Kohler for a product that is thoughtfully designed, scientifically tested and unmatched when it comes to quality. ■

Ambassador Martha Stewart kicks back in a cast-iron tub.

IRON LADY

PHOTO DOUGLAS FRIEDMAN T E X T STEWART KELLER MARTHA’S NEW POSITION T elevision host, magazine magnate, best-selling author: Martha Stewart has taken on many roles in the course of her storied career. And now her latest title—that of Kohler Cast Iron Ambassador—will see her continue educating the public in the art of living well. Kohler traces its history with cast iron all the way back to 1883, when founder John Michael Kohler transformed a cast- iron horse trough into the company’s first enameled bath. Today, Kohler’s enameled cast-iron collection includes baths, shower bases, and kitchen sinks in a variety of styles. And the company’s Chair and CEO David Kohler says Stewart is the ideal individual to help share its enduring story: “Martha Stewart personifies quality, design, and what it means to live a gracious lifestyle. Stewart—who describes herself as a cast iron devotee— seems excited by the synergy. “It’s such a pleasure to partner with the innovative minds at Kohler to bring awareness to the variety and depth of their enameled cast-iron offerings,” Stewart shares. “I have been a proponent of enameled cast iron for de- cades, all throughout the home, and look forward to sharing my passion for the material with the world and helping others dis- cover its beauty, strength, and lasting value—especially through the lens of the category leader Kohler.” ■

TITLE

MEET THE DESIGNERS How would you describe your personal design style? Contemporary/modern minimalist. Who inspires you? Laura Kirar. Her design is bold yet timeless, and I admire how she blends artistry with function so seamlessly. Describe a memorable design project you’ve worked on. I designed a home with 10 bathrooms and three kitchens. The client’s contemporary taste and open budget let me be creative and bold, choosing the best materials and details. Each room felt unique yet connected, creating a home that is both modern and comfortable. Is there a movie with design that you love? I loved the design in Why Him? The interiors were modern, open and playful, with a great mix of sleek architecture and comfortable, livable details. It struck the right balance of style and warmth, which I look for in great design. Can you share an issue you resolved on a design project? One challenging project was a luxury home where the builder faced financial setbacks, but we didn’t let that stop us. By smartly working within the budget and leaning on Kohler’s beautiful products, we still achieved a truly luxurious result. If you were a color, what color would you be? I’d be orange, because it’s bold and modern, a color that isn’t afraid to stand out while still feeling warm and inviting What type of design project do you find yourself working on most? Is there another kind you’d like to do more of? I focus mostly on residential homes, but I’m excited to ex- plore commercial projects where I can bring the same sense

of creativity and modern luxury to a different scale How do you unwind when you’re feeling stressed out? Sports activities and time with family—it’s the balance I need outside of work Is there a design upgrade you’d love to make in your own home?

RONEN AVRAMOV MANHASSET

I’d like to install a steam room: a personal retreat where I could relax and recharge. It would bring a sense of spa-like luxury into my everyday routine. What’s a trend that fascinates you? I love the trend of smart toilet technology; it makes even the most routine moments feel a little more high-tech and luxurious Is there an iconic building or space where you’d like to try living? I would love to live in the Burj Al Arab in Dubai. Its design is striking, modern, and unapologetically luxurious When it comes to design, what does autumn make you think of? Autumn inspires me to design with balance. Pairing sophis- ticated with a sense of ease, and bringing in elements that make home feel both luxurious and lived in. What impression do you hope to make on your clients? I hope clients see me as someone who listens closely, un- derstands their vision, and has the creativity to bring it to life.

If you’re a designer, contractor, architect or home renovation enthusiast who shops at either GPS or Kohler Signature Stores, we want to showcase your work in an upcoming issue of this magazine. Go to submissions.gpsliving.com to share images and info about your project, and we’ll be in touch.

F or its fifth outing, Kips Bay Decorator counts among its neighbors the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek (now a luxury hotel) and a Four Sea- sons Hotel and Residences. As with other Kips Bay Decorator Show Hous- es, key sponsor Kohler helped designers deploy sparkle and functionality throughout the home. Pieces from the company’s popular collabora- tion with artist Daniel Arsham took center stage in a gracious, Tuscan-themed bath from Martha Champagne. Kohler also provided the faucet, pot filler and a sink that brought an appropriately green tinge to the Citrus Garden kitchen from Courtnay Tart Elias and Creative Tonic Design. Visitors to the latter may have wondered if they had been trans- ported to Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach by its verdant Floridian vibes. Show House Dallas had quite the upscale address. There were at least two trips to Britain: a Tea Room from Henry Street Design channeled the spirit of the holiday destination of Brighton. And Lisa Henderson’s sweet sleeping space summoned the spirit of an English garden. Meanwhile, with his Sobremesa Lounge, Javier Burkle saluted Mexico— naming the room after the tradition of lingering around the table after a meal. And with enthusias- tic wood paneling, Victoria Sass delivered visitors to the Midwest of her memories. Another house trend was upgrading spaces with colorful, Kohler-equipped wet bars. Sass used green for her Midwestern meeting space. Shelby Wagner chose a vivid orange for a bar near the house’s entrance. And Traci Connell’s use of mauve for her cigar lounge infused a feminine twist. Visitors to Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas left with plenty of design inspiration—but also the pleasure of having helped support such good causes as the Boys & Girls Clubs, Dwell with Dignity, and The Crystal Charity Ball.
