19 SWVS 2024 REGISTRATION GUIDE

Presented by

Fatigued vet Claire grapples with the pressures of the shift. As her emotional state wanes, she is introduced to a dog with an unsettling request, pushing Claire to face both ethical dilemmas and her mental health struggle. Date: September 26th, 2024 | Time: 2:30- 3:30 PM | Location: Ballroom B

Special Film Preview for SWVS Attendees Join us for a moving cinematic journey that delves into the uncomfortable truth about veterinary medicine - the acute mental health crisis.

Danielle Baynes previously released another short film, Comments, that won several awards including the Audience Award at Freshflix Film Festival 2022. Her work intentionally seeks to bring large scale awareness to issues faced in society today.

Following the screening, we will have a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring:

• Danielle Baynes – The Dog writer, director, producer • Dr. Brian Bourquin, DVM, President, Not One More Vet, Practicing vet • Dave Shuey, LMSW, DMA, Veterinary Social Worker - IndeVets • Dr. Marisa Brunetti, VMD, Chief Veterinary Officer - IndeVets

Attendees can expect to take away:

• Appreciation of the link between euthanasia and veterinary suicide • That suicidal thoughts are only dangerous when they are unmentionable • That death is not the only answer to suffering • That relationships make the difference

In addition, attendees will be given information about how they can arrange their own screenings of the film and share this resource with their professional communities.
