WHAT’S HAPPENING IMN | WARNOCK We celebrated our 100th Day of School and Read Across America Week by working with the number 100, writing stories and doing art as if we were 100 years old, and writing poetry that was full of metaphors! We participated in a math and science challenge, and used our wireless thermometers to gather data on the air, soil and water around our school, including the Imnaha River! We are looking forward to hatching some chicks and butterflies when we return from Spring Break! PRE-K | MCWATERS March was filled with Leprechaun mischief! Our class set the best trap they could to try and capture our class Leprechaun named Larry. However, he was way too sneaky for our class! He ate the snacks we left in the trap and then spread green/gold glitter everywhere he went throughout the classroom! He even used our bathroom and left glittery footprints and didn’t even flush the toilet! Ewww! To end the month, Mrs. Candi brought in Moose, a baby goat she was fostering. The kiddos loved seeing and learning all about a different type of kid! K | SHETLER This past month we have been learning about “Zooming In” and observing our environment and the world around us. We are loving using our imaginations and making Not a Box creations out of cardboard, we have been building 3D shapes out of flat 2D paper, and learning about flossy words and digraphs ch and -tch words! We will dive into learning about the Amazon and beginning our study on Ants and their habitats. 1ST | BLANKENSHIP First grade had an unexpected visitor in March. Our class Leprechaun came and we did our best to trap him! He once again made a mess of the classroom, leaving green and gold glitter everywhere. He even left chocolate coins for us to eat. Until next year Mr. Leprechaun! 2ND | LYMAN We’ve had a fun last month celebrating Dr. Seuss and the 100th day of school! In math second grade just finished working on learning how to add and subtract three digit numbers with regrouping. Now we are beginning to work on measurement in inches, centimeters, yards, and meters. Second grade is looking forward to learning how to write a narrative writing piece and creating our imaginative stories. We also will begin to work on our social studies project of how can second graders make a difference in their school or community. I look forward to seeing all the
creative ideas the students come up with. 3RD | OLSON As a class, we have been preparing for our spring student-led conferences by setting goals and focusing on what we call “glow and grow,” using a tree chart. This chart will be utilized during the conferences, allowing students to share their progress, showcase our daily learning environment, and take on leadership roles in their learning. During math time, we have been working on fractions, using terms such as numerator, denominator, and equal parts to enhance our math vocabulary. We are specifically focusing on the math tool of placing fractions on a number line. Next month, third graders will research a specific state and create a tri-fold board. Eventually, they will welcome their families to our classroom for a presentation. 4TH | GROVER Last month the class had their first speaking day where they presented their Native American tribe slideshow, shelter and doll. In math, they worked on mastering fraction addition and subtraction while in reading students worked on character analysis. Students also explored the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Next month, students will wrap up fractions and begin studying decimals. Our Oregon Trail simulation will kick off with our novel study of the Stout Hearted Seven. We will continue to perfect the art of writing informational paragraphs as well as opinion pieces. 5TH | BURNS Learning about the life of Wilson Bentley, farmer, photographer of snowflakes, and weather predictor, engaged our class. Relating our current lives to his life, over 100 years ago was meaningful, as was math this month. We learned about many equivalent measurements by having an indoor and outdoor scavenger hunt. Next month we will begin studying steelhead by dissecting adults and raising eggs to fry in our classroom. We also plan to create our third self-portrait and collaborate with the Josephy Center on a math and art project. 6TH | HITE We have been studying the Ancient Mesopotamians as a class. Throughout this unit, each group of students became an expert on a certain aspect of this time period and then presented their information to the class. We will be finishing informational writing and moving on to argumentative. Our last informational project will include the people of Ancient Greece.
