experienced during this period, particularly the 3 July 2013 coup, on the Egyptian media system. The study also analyses the theoretical foundations and principles of this system, as well as its characteristics and features, and assesses its alignment or divergence with other media systems in the world. The study uses an integrated methodology to describe the Egyptian media system, such as the historical approach and document analysis, as constitutional and legal texts and ethical codes that formed the basis of the media system were analysed. Ultimately, the study’s findings include the existence of a relationship between the political and the media system, as pluralism and diversity in this system are proportional to the level of democracy in the political system. Furthermore, the study suggests that the liberal perspective that shaped the legislative philosophy and legal framework of the media system did not prevent those in power from dominating and controlling the media, particularly after the 2013 coup, and using it to manipulate the flow of news, knowledge and opinions.
