Twitter) to explain the mechanisms and methods of media framing used to address the issues of Ukrainian and Middle Eastern refugees and asylum seekers during the outbreak of Russian-Ukrainian war. The study also aims to identify the characteristics of media coverage of these issues and their dimensions. Through the analysis of the content of 306 news articles, the study reveals that conflict framing was most prominent in news on Ukraine, while the context framing was the most prominent in news on Middle Eastern refugees, with ethical framing being the least utilised approach. Additionally, the study found that La Croix differed from the rest of the sample in that it relied mainly on context framing and social framing to frame the issue of Middle Eastern refugees, while the other newspapers focused on conflict framing and action framing in their coverage of the issue of Ukrainian refugees. Ultimately, the study concludes that standard determinants were used in the media coverage of refugee issues, reflecting the type of coverage conducted based on stereotypical mental constructs, cognitive templates and cultural models that promote negative attitudes towards minorities and create a form of ideological polarisation among the audience in its perception of them.
