MOM'S BOOK

something very strange, no one was home, the house was dark. The police showed up and asked Linda to go into the dark house to see if Tom was there. Can you imagine?! Why didn’t they go in first? You have to understand how this situation progressed. My bedroom wall was the common wall to mom’s bedroom. Every night he would berate her, beat her, choke her, scream at her, all the while she would be saying,“Shhhhh you’ll wake the kids.” Again, she was trying to shield us, but it became so obvious, I did not have a night I could sleep through for weeks. There were many times she would have a black eye and tell me she ran into a wall. Right! 1970 After running from Tom that terrible night and couch surfing at two different places for weeks, we (mom, me, & Tommy) ultimately moved into an apartment at SE 18th Ave, Ft Lauderdale. It was a 2-bedroom apartment, nice and safe, finally. I was a senior in high school at that time. Mom began dating Dick Campbell, and were together for 7 years then separated in 1976. I remember painting the “Knight in Shining Armor” in this apartment while Dick watched. He so enjoyed watching me paint. He called me Sunshine. I did another one with his Football images, but I do not know what happened to that one. I may have given it to him in later years. If I remember correctly, Dick told me he had a fire and it went up in flames…sigh… The “City Scape” and “Tiger” were also painted at this time. The “Tiger” continues to hang at the condominium and “City Scape” has finally found its way to my home.

1972- November Mom purchased her very first home at Emerald Tower

Condominium in Pompano Beach when I was a Sophomore in college. She was a very successful realtor. When I first arrived to the new condo, the shag rug mom had installed was crazy long! It was like walking through grass! I remember Dick installing that rustic wood in the sun room
