and swearing up a storm every time it didn’t fit…. I also painted the mural on the outside porch wall. I was in the middle of my sophomore year in college and would return home every summer vacation. That was when I painted the 4 x 8 ft “Spanish Landscape” that hung in her living room for over 50 years. Painting something so large, I had to go into the garage of the condo to setup shop. Within 4 days I had it completed and mom had it framed. Dick and mom went their separate ways in 1976. In fact, Dick came to my first wedding to Joe Hastie and then moved on from there to Texas and ultimately married a woman named Sherrie who, incidentally, was a clone of my mom. Mom remained in Florida as she had been taking care of her mother, Marion. But that did not mean Mom did not have relationships going forward. There was Ralph who was Jewish and owned a commercial strip at the corner of Bayview Drive and US 1. He seemed like a great guy, but mom never wanted a marriage relationship. Then there was Ruben, a contra fighter and I will let her tell you that story, short and sweet. Then the Canal murderer, not that she dated him, but he wanted to date her, or should I say something else? There were many others and then there was Bert who lasted longer than any of them…10 years until he passed away in August 2013.
