Find Sports at www.TheSportsLedger.com Tennessee Valley 2021 Hunting and Fishing Expo The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association (AMLA) have come together to give away 700 lunch bags to children at the Tennessee Valley Hunting and Fishing Expo on July 9-11, 2021. According to a press release, the giveaway promotion encourages parents to take children fishing or camping in the Tennessee Valley region. Each year TVA sponsors its Community Outreach Support Program that assists with funding in several areas related to environmental stewardship, which is part of its mission of service. With funding provided by TVA, AMLA will give away lunch bags to the first 200 kids to AMLA’s booth each day of the annual expo held at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. “The Tennessee Valley region is filled with numerous natural wonders, parks, campgrounds and eight lakes that offer endless opportunities for families to experience together,” said AMLA President and CEO Tami Reist. “TVA has a long history of commitment to the region it serves. We appreciate their willingness to give back and to promote the use of the natural resources found across the region.” The Tennessee Valley Huntsville and Fishing Expo is a destination event for hunting, fishing and outdoor enthusiasts, as well as the top outdoor retailers and organizations. The expo will feature hands-on product demonstrations from a wide range of hunting and fishing venues. Show hours are: Friday, July 9 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, July 10 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the Expo is $10 per person with free admission for children 12 years old and younger. Alabama Athletics Has Banner Year Alabama’s highly-successful 2020-21 season, which includedaCollegeFootballPlayoffNationalChampionship and Southeastern Conference championships in football, men’s basketball, gymnastics and softball, helped propel the Crimson Tide to a seventh-place finish in the 2021 Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup, which is its highest in program history. UA’s previous best was 14th at the conclusion of the 2017-18 campaign. Montana Fouts Named Pitcher of the Year Alabama junior pitcher Montana Fouts was named the 2021 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division-I Pitcher of the Year. Fouts, a unanimous First Team NFCA All-American, went 27-4 this season with a 1.61 ERA and led all pitchers with 349 strikeouts, the third-highest total in Alabama single-season history. She threw double-digit strikeouts in 22 games, including 14 in a perfect game against UCLA at the Women’s College World Series, the fifth in World Series history and first since 2000. She was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Year and SEC Tournament MVP, leading the Crimson Tide to its sixth tournament title. The Schutt Sports/NFCA Pitcher of the Year award was first awarded in 2019, an additional award alongside the Player of the Year award that had been presented since 2016. Thirteen Tide teams finished the season in the top 25 nationally including six in the top five – football (1), softball (3), women's outdoor track & field (4), men's basketball (5), gymnastics (5) and women's swimming and diving (5). Two more finished in the top 10 – men's indoor track and field (7) and women's cross country (8) – to give Alabama eight national finishes between first and eighth. Other top-25 finishers include men's outdoor track and field (13), rowing (14), men's swimming and diving (15), women's indoor track and field (16) and women's golf (24). For the final standings, 19 total teams can be scored, four of which must include men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and volleyball. UA finished with a combined 1017.25 points. The Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between theNationalAssociation of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
“One of our goals is to have a regular presence in the top 10 of the Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup, so we are thrilled and certainly very proud of this,” said Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne. “To have our highest finish in program history in a year like this is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes, coaches and staff but also to the selflessness of so many over this past season.
