En effet, le premier Rendez-vous des saveurs locales aura lieu le 15 octobre à partir de 16 h au Centre commu- nautaire d’Embrun. L’événe- ment, qui se terminera à 21 h, donnera la chance aux partici- pants de goûter plusieurs diffé- rentes sortes de bières locales, de vins et de nourriture, disponibles à plus de 20 kiosques. Parmi ceux- ci se retrouvent Cassel Brewery, la brasserie Étienne Brûlé, la Froma- gerie St-Albert, l’Académie du Gour- met, Tuque de Broue, la Boulangerie du Village ainsi que Beau’s. Le festival est organisé dans l’espoir d’encourager les résidents à acheter des produits locaux. « Nous essayons de promouvoir les produits locaux, a expliqué Vanessa Carrière, adjointe administrative au département de développement économique pour le canton de Russell. » En outre, une partie des profits de l’événement sera versée à la Banque alimentaire locale Bons Voisins. De plus, la Banque Scotia, par l’entremise de son programme de participation communautaire, versera un montant égal aux profits versés à la banque ali- mentaire. Les billets pour le festival sont disponi- bles à l’hôtel de ville, la brasserie Étienne Brûlé, Euphoria, l’Académie du Gourmet, KB Media, Pierre et Fils, Foodland Russell, Russell PharmaChoice ainsi qu’à la brasserie Tuque de Broue.

Residents from here and elsewhere are in for quite a culinary experience. The first-ever Local Flavours Rendez- Vous will take place on October 15, from 4 to 9 p.m., at the Embrun Community

Le Village a reçu une subvention du gou- vernement provincial de l’ordre de 2 mil- lions $ pour ce projet. L’approbation finale du projet pourrait survenir par voie de résolu- tion d’ici la fin de cette année. Elle dépendra de toute information complémentaire ou des commentaires sur la prolongement et la mise en œuvre d’une grille tarifaire pour les frais de connexion.¶
Près de 150 personnes ont participé à une séance d’information le 6 octobre à Cassel- man au sujet du prolongement du réseau d’égouts. « Tout lemonde a bien compris ce qui se passait », a déclaré lemaire Conrad Lamade- leine au cours d’une entrevue téléphonique. Il a ajouté qu’il n’y avait pas de désaccord d’importance quant aux coûts ou la nécessité d’aller de l’avant avec un tel projet. Le Village de Casselman prévoit prolon- ger le réseau d’égouts municipal au profit des propriétaires actuels et futurs acheteurs des lots du nouveau développement de la subdivision ouest de la rivière Nation Sud. Les 114 propriétés actuelles possèdent des champs septiques. Les propriétaires seront enmesure de se brancher au nouveau réseau d’égouts au tarif de 5000 $ à 6000 $, soit le coût de l’installation d’une conduite

There was no support on counties council last month for Hawkesburymayor Jeanne Charlebois when she first proposed that fire dispatch service become a regional function. That situation may change this month when Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux sits down at the counties council table. “The reality is that it’s a regional service,” saidmayor Leroux, during the Oct. 3 regular session of Russell Township council, before announcing that he also now plans to ask the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) to take on fire dispatch as a function. “Hopefully, the majority of (counties) council will agree this is the way to go,” he said. “The way I’ve written the resolution, and the way I’ll present it, it’ll be a totally counties’ responsibility.” The mayor’s announcement came out of discussion between himself and his councillors about an official letter to the Town of Hawkesbury asking for an 18-month extension of the current fire dispatch service contract between the two municipalities. The township is one of six Prescott-Russell municipalities which contract with Hawkesbury for the service and the current contract ends in February 2017. The City of Clarence-Rockland is the one UCPR community that does not contract with Hawkesbury. The City has been part of a fire dispatch service program provided by the City of Ottawa since 2000. Hawkesbury provided the service for the other municipalities and also for North Stormont and North Glengarry. Those two municipalities now plan to contract with the City of Cornwall. That will increase the shares of the contract cost withHawkesbury for the remaining six municipalities.

Russell Township decided earlier this year to seek a contract with Ottawa, which would mean another cost-share increase for the other five Prescott-Russell municipalities. All of them, including Hawkesbury, then decided to seek their own service contracts with Ottawa. But nowCity of Ottawa officials say that all of the seven UCPR communities must either come in as a single regional contract or not at all. Ottawa has also demanded a review of the current fire dispatch support technology in the UCPR and stated that any regional contract will require upgrading systems to digital from current analog setups. That is another reason why both Russell Township and other UCPR communities now seek extensions of their current service contracts with Hawkesbury. The review and upgrade will take time to meet Ottawa’s demand should the counties council still decide against taking on fire dispatch as an official function.
