By Katie Davis W ell the French may not be banning classic cars from their roads in Paris but they are going to limit the access of cars registered prior to 1997. In doing so cars registered prior to 1997 will no longer have driving access to the streets of Paris on weekdays from 8 am to 8 pm starting July 1st, 2016, according to L’Automobile magazine. The vehicles that will be subject to the limit or ban are gasoline and diesel powered cars and light-duty trucks (under 3.5 tons), as well as 2-wheelers registered prior to June 1st, 2000. The bill imposes several bans for various classes of vehicles, including cars, trucks, busses and even motorcycles. This follows the ban that was put on buses and heavy trucks manufac- tured before October 2001, which are unable to drive across the French capital since last September.

As a classic car lover and owner of a 1985 Mustang Cobra, I ask myself why such drastic measures?

The idea is to improve air quality in Paris and experts are saying by 2020, all vehicles registered prior to 2011 may also be banned from Paris.

So the future doesn’t look very optimistic for those that have taken care of their cars or motorbikes for that matter or have a passion for older cars and classics to drive the streets of Paris.
