His coming death, the disciples prat tle about a cozy place. (3) The selfishness o f the disciples adds to the suffering of the Saviour. (4) The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. (5) If we are to reign with Him there, we must be rejected with Him here. (6) The servant’s place is a safe place for ' every disciple. (7) The Lord gives place, not through favoritism, but -through fitness. (8) W e are prepared for a position by being partakers o f His suffering. (9) In God’s kingdom, the pre-eminent are those who prostrate themselves in service. were digging bait to go fishing and the father said, “how many worms would it take to equal in. value your life, my boy?” There are different kinds of crosses for us to bear, but Jesus bore them all on one cross. Aughey said, “God makes crosses o f great variety; He makes some o f iron and lead, that look as if they must crush; some o f straw that' seem so light, and yet are no less difficult to carry; some He makes o f precious stones and gold, that dazzle the eye and excite the envy o f spec tators,, but in reality are as well able to crucify as those which are so dreaded.” A Bible teacher in England was opposed and persecuted by people who did not like to be disturbed by the truth o f God. One day he brought in a lot o f sticks and stones which had been used upon him and said, “These are hard arguments, but they are the only ones my opponents have been able to bring against the truth.” Ye Know Not What Ye Ask .—A little boy asked his father for a razor. He was given a cheap jack knife because the father knew better than to give him something with which he would cut himself severely. W e ask God for razors but He can only

joy o f fellowship with Himself in the lowliest service, we come to understand better the significance o f that life o f God, which is imparted to us by the Holy Spirit who resides in us. “ He that is least among you all, shall be great.” The world has nothing to, offer to the lowly, but God has His best for those who are enabled to interpret the real meaning o f Christ’s blessed words, “ If any man will come after Me, let him deny him self, and take up his cross and follow Me.” PRACTICAL POINTS (1) What a sorrowful story the Man of ‘Sorrow has to tell! When a man says he is humble, we all know he is lying, as Uriah Heep, one o f Dickens’s characters said. Ruskin says, “ I believe the first test o f a truly great man is his humility,” but not that he says he is humble. Someone called Sir Richard Steel the “vilest o f mankind,” and he, returned with proud humility, “ It would be a glorious world if I were.” Dr. F. B. Meyer confessed to the ministers at North- field, that one night as he retired, in India, the thought came to him : “What a won derful work you are doing. Think of your great church work in London, think o f the thousands of people who are reading your books, and see how you are preaching to thousands here in far off India. Mr. Meyer said, “Brethren, I got out o f bed and knelt down and said, ‘Blessed Lord, I am doing nothing; you are doing it all and ' you shall have the glory’.” The Cross of Jesus.’’—A little boy said, “ Papa how could Jesus’ death pay the price o f so many people’s sin?” “ Because, said his father, “ Jesus was so much more val uable than all o f us put together.” They
