THE KING’ S BUSINESS

the king riding into Jerusalem on the ass was literally fulfilled, what must we under stand from his prophecy in the 14th chap ter o f his hook? If the promise o f the angel to Mary regarding the birth o f Jesus was fulfilled literally, what are we to understand about that Son sitting on “the throne o f His father David,” and ruling over an everlasting kingdom? See Luke 1 :32, 33. Who were these people who thus acclaimed Jesus—the common people or the rulers? Have you accepted Him and sur rendered your life to Him—your Saviour, King. II. The King Administering Justice, verses 12-25. Where did our Lord spend the evening o f that first “ Palm Sunday?” Where did He go from Bethany the following day—■ Monday? What attracted His attehtion as He walked? What was peculiar about it? It was too early in the season for the new crop o f figs—remember it was the first week in April—but sometimes there were some o f the winter crop o f figs still on the trees, though usually the leaves would all be blown off, leaving the fruit alone. What made it especially attractive to Him that morning? That He was hungry proves what about Him? Why did He pronounce judgment uj)on the fig tree? Who had given the tree its existence in the first place? Had its creator a right to pro nounce judgment upon it? Are the trees affected by the curse that came upon the earth through man’s sin? See Gen. 3:17, 18. Will they partake o f the blessing when that curse is removed? See Rom. 8:19-23. What did/ our Lord teach the disciples from the withered fig tree on the following day (Tuesday) ? Have you mem orized verse 24? Will you do so and with

the lesson from the fig tree in mind to warn and to encourage, will you seek to meet the conditions and to claim the promise ? Where did Jesus go when He entered Jerusalem that Monday? What did He find there? These markets were held in the great-open square called the Court o f the Gentiles. What did He do? Had He ever done this before? When? At the opening o f His ministry-=-see John 2:13-17. Why did He do it? How did the Jewish authorities View His conduct? Why? What did they seek to do? Do you think that the Lord Jesus has changed His views regarding money making in the house o f worship? I f He has not, what must He think o f some o f our present day methods o f “ raising” money for carrying on what we like to think is His work ? What did He say the temple was intended to be used for ? How much real right has your church to be called “a house o f prayer?” Have you ever read “.How Christ came to Church/’ an incident in the life o f Dr. A. J. Gordon, pastor o f Clarendon Street Bap tist Church, Boston? I f not, you should do so. What did the chief priests and scribes and elders ¡demand o f Jesus? What made the question a foolish one? Why did they ask such a foolish question? Was the evi dence o f His words and works sufficient authority? Why did they not accept the evidence. Was the difficulty lack o f evi dence or wilful hardness o f heart? How did He answer1 their question ? How did they answer His question? Are you ques tioning His authority, or have you submit ted yourself to it? If you have not accepted Him, what will you answer Him at that great day when He asks you why you did not accept Him? Accept Him now.
