Brown's Automotive Experts Fall 2019

Fall 2019

It’s been a whirlwind of a year for us here at Brown’s Automotive Inc.We’ve taken immense pleasure in providing even more services since the opening of our third location in Rio Rancho, and the great progress we’ve seen with the business this year has been inspiring. But for me, life has been extra grand since finally marrying Lily in September. As we head into the holiday season, I can’t help but think about how these fantastic new circumstances give me the opportunity to reflect on what’s really important in life. Working in a family business, it’s easy to say that family has always played an important role in my life. But now that I’ve tied the knot, it’s official: Lily is also my family. It could be the influx of work in our shops or it could be our first holiday season as husband and wife, but lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of a healthy work-life balance. Everyone here at Brown’s Automotive Inc. absolutely loves the work they do.We get to help our great customers and work with a team we love. It’s easy to spend long hours in the shop and let the day slip away, and a big part of the joy in working is knowing that doing so provides for our families at home. But the truth is that if you let your work overtake you, then you risk the very reason you’re working in the first place: your family. This new role I’ve taken on as husband has made me realize just how important family will always be. “Even if it’s the hundredth time you’ve heard the same story, listen like it’s the first time. Appreciate your family member’s excitement about sharing their life with you, and take the time to share a piece of your life with them.” Be There for Your Family And They’ll Be There for You This holiday season, whether you’re traveling to see family for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the days in between, just remember to make yourself

present. Even if it’s the hundredth time you’ve heard the same story, listen like it’s the first time. Appreciate your family member’s excitement about sharing their life with you, and take the time to share a piece of your life with them. It’s all about the give and take; family is a collective word. Whether you see them once a year for the holidays or every day like I do at work, show them how important they are to you by simply being there for them. It’s like my grandma always tells me:“They don’t remember how long you stayed, just that you were there.” Although I’ve had the fortune of being around a lot of family for my entire life, I’m now beginning to understand what it truly means to just show up, whether it’s for my family during the holidays, for my wife at home, or for the job I do every day. As you prepare to show up for your own families this holiday season, don’t forget to keep up your regular car maintenance before you take any long road trips, especially as winter weather hits the roads. Make sure to get your tires and oil checked, and if it’s been a while, do a full workup of your engine so you can guarantee you and your family make it safely to all the loved ones waiting to welcome you. If you show up at Brown’s Automotive Inc., we’ll show up with great services every time. From our family to yours, we wish you the happiest of holidays and a prosperous new year! -Nolan Brown

The Joy of a Gingerbread House EVERYTHING YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THIS HOLIDAY TRADITION

THE ORIGINS OF GINGERBREAD Ginger was first cultivated in ancient China, then traded into medieval Europe. There, Europeans incorporated it into culinary traditions and used it to bake cookies into elaborate shapes and works of art, including figures of animals and people. The gingerbread house first appeared in the early 19th century in Germany. Although historians don’t know an exact date, it’s speculated that it gained popularity around the same time that “Hansel and Gretel,” the popular fairy tale recorded by the Brothers Grimm, was published. THE LARGEST GINGERBREAD HOUSE In 2013, the world record for the largest gingerbread house in the world was broken. The house, topping out at 21 feet and covering 2,520 square feet, was built by Traditions Golf Club in Bryan,Texas, to raise money for a local Level II

trauma center. To construct the house, builders created a recipe that required 1,800 pounds of butter, 2,925 pounds of brown sugar, 7,200 eggs, 7,200 pounds of flour, 1,080 ounces of ground ginger, and a few additional ingredients. BUILDYOUR OWN! While you don’t have to challenge yourself to beat the GuinnessWorld Record, you can still have fun creating your very own gingerbread village. Starting your gingerbread house from scratch can be a fun activity for the whole family to enjoy. Give the kids a chance to mix the ingredients, roll out the dough, and set out plenty of candies and frostings to use, and remember to have fun! The Most Anticipated Cars of 2020 Some Familiar Faces With Big Twists

The year 2020 is almost here, and while we may not have flying cars yet, there are still some exciting (and interesting) new and revamped vehicles hitting the market in the coming decade. Here are a few that are already turning heads. FORD BRONCO Back by popular demand after a 2 1/2-decade absence, the Ford Bronco is getting some serious upgrades since it was last on the market. It’s built to be a highly capable off- roader with a much less bulky SUV body than its predecessors. It’ll also sport some highly anticipated sleek upgrades, like a removable top and two-door or four-door setups. CHEVY CORVETTE Nearly a quarter century after the death of the founding father of Corvette, Chevy is finally rolling out his dream of a mid-engined version. It benefits from significantly altered aerodynamics and weight distribution to

popularity. Jeep’s first pickup truck in a quarter century shares a similar platform and style with the Jeep Wrangler, but it reaches much further for suspension. Its full bed gives you all the utility of a truck, while its body provides the off-road capability of the Wrangler. Whether you’re already prepurchasing or just admiring from afar, 2020’s new vehicles bring to light the exciting new future of the world of automotives.

raise its performance and sports a body with noticeably new design flares that somehow keep in tune with classic expectations. There’s still a lot of hushed talk around this one, including rumors of an electric motor version. JEEP GLADIATOR There seem to be two firm takes on the style of this one: You either love it or you hate it. But the proof is in the purchase, and the 2020 models have already hit the market and shown ample

Lessons Families Can Learn From ‘A Christmas Story’

More Than Just ‘You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!’

LESSONS FAMILIES CAN LEARN FROM ‘A CHRISTMAS STORY’

SOMETIMES ‘DISASTERS’ LEADTO NEWADVENTURES. Christmas Day can be hectic, and, in the hubbub of it all, sometimes disaster can feel inevitable. Ralphie’s parents certainly experience their fair share of disaster in hilarious fashion when the Bumpus Hounds destroy their holiday turkey and leave nothing but the heavenly aroma. But, when Ralphie’s father takes them out to eat at a local Chinese restaurant, it creates a whole new Christmas tradition for the Parker family. Our holiday mishaps, no matter how tragic, are rarely the end of the world.

hearing that word from his old man — possibly when he was trying to get their furnace to work. He doesn’t admit this to his mother, but it’s a lesson for parents everywhere that kids may hear more than they let on. KIDSWON’T BELIEVE IN MAGIC FOREVER. Magical stories about Santa or even “Little Orphan Annie’s” Secret Society fill children’s hearts with wonder but won’t enchant them forever. Belief in certain parts of the Christmas season can fade slowly or die as quickly as the spin of a decoder pin, but parents can always be there to remind children about what’s really important during the Christmas season.

In 1983, one movie introduced Red Ryder BB guns, fishnet-clad leg lamps, and bright red bars of soap into America’s everlasting Christmas mythos. Now, over 35 years later,“A Christmas Story” continues to delight audiences every holiday season with timeless lessons for viewers of all ages. In a story where kids are clever and kind, and parents are bumbling and wise, “A Christmas Story” has more lessons to offer families than just,“You’ll shoot your eye out!” YOUR KIDS ARE LISTENINGTOYOU (OH, FUDGE!). They aren’t always obedient, but that doesn’t mean they’re not listening. After Ralphie lets slip the “queen mother of dirty words” in front of his father, the narrator reminisces about first

Consider one final tip: Do not stick your tongue to any flagpoles this winter! Happy holidays!
