Welcome to the last week of Term 3. The Term ’ s end feels that it has come so quickly, until I reflect and consider all that we have achieved, which is a credit to our staff, students and families. Congratulations to all “ Learners of the Term ” who feature in this bulletin. This is a tremendous achievement and reflection of hard work, effort, collaboration, teamwork and sustained persistence. I implore all families with children who have accomplished these awards to embrace and celebrate the achievement. There are many highlights and I am loathe to list them all because I am sure I would miss something! What I do know is that each one of our students and staff have enriched our curriculum program and student engagement. The NAPLAN data, which has been highlighted and presented to us, confirms that we have made a significant improvement in student performance and that most students are on their way to making a full year ’ s growth in educational outcomes. This is a key target measure that will define our success as educators and parents/carers as partners in learning across the College. In Term 4, we will move onto many student celebrations including the annual Award ’ s Night at Uni Hill Convention Centre on December 18. For the first time, our awards will be subject - based to coincide with the new Department of Education Teaching & Learning Model 2.0. This is our showcase evening where we acknowledge student success across all disciplines. We have some preliminary results of the Parent Opinion Survey to share. It is very encouraging to have over 100 families complete the survey. This is the biggest number that I can remember and it will present us with important feedback for us to consider and respond to in 2025. The overall summary of results are extremely positive and we should all feel proud of this achievement. Similarly, the preliminary results of our Staff Opinion Survey have been released. Whilst the finer details are unavailable at this point, initial data trends are very similar to last year. Overall, we are very happy with the results because it is a reflection of everyone ’ s commitment and drive to improve our College, making our educational precinct one that every

family in our immediate community wants to be a part of. Thank you for your efforts on this survey and more importantly, the honesty and feedback. We cannot achieve our goals unless we use these mediums to: analyse our performance; reflect on what we do; and, reboot and align resources to meet the challenges that will take us to the next level. This week we have had: the Year 10 students out on Work Experience; a number of Student Support Group meetings; the completion of a number of SACS/CATS; and, VCE assessments leading into the holidays. Thank you to all families who connected for the Primary Campus Learner Review meetings on Tuesday. Your efforts are central to your child ’ s education, which is very important. There is not a more powerful force than having both teachers and parents/carers on the same page to support the learning needs of the child. There are so many enduring positives that result from this partnership, the most important being the deeper understanding of student progress towards set goals and how to prepare to meet these outcomes. Our facility upgrades continue over the next few weeks. Partition work to rooms will continue during the holidays on both Campuses, air conditioning will be installed on the Primary Campus, and, hopefully the synthetic basketball courts will be laid. The works on ramps will continue on the Secondary Campus and there will be electrical repairs and compliance tasks that will occur. Thank you to the staff and student leaders who facilitated this year ’ s Year 9 City Experience. Students were exposed to our big and busy democratic CBD, our timing coinciding with some of the most notable protests ever seen in our city. It is a credit to everyone involved that so many students participated throughout the week and felt safe with the supports that were implemented. Special thanks to Mrs Ganikis for leading the year level every day with her quintessential smile and composure. I know I speak on behalf of our families by saying that we are lucky to have you as the Year 9 Year Level Leader. Congratulations to the Wakakkiri team for their wonderful success at the State finals. The team won the Health and Well - Being Story State Award and were nominated for a National award! Students, staff and families involved will have created lasting memories that will shine forever. Thank you to: students who enthusiastically participated; families who ventured across town to Moonee Ponds twice to provide transport and audience support; alumni students who supported through choreography, mentoring and back - stage support; and, to the wonderful team of staff, led by Miss Freind, for the time and effort taken to facilitate this initiative throughout the Term.

Congratulations to Ms Comito who finishes up this week to begin family leave. We wish you and your family the best and look forward to your “ show & tell ” visit later next term. Ms Comito will be replaced by Ms Nikoloska next Term who comes off a placement last Semester. I would like to extend our appreciation to the College fundraising committee and the SRCs for their organisation of the RUOK day morning tea, and of course to Mrs Skendaris for the World ’ s Greatest Shave last Friday raising over $2000. Funds will be used to support care packages for young people in our College who experience loss of an immediate family member. While the activities provide a lot of fun and build community in spades, the importance of the fundraisers have become critical to supporting our College community, and general community more broadly. Please donate to the online fund if you can. On behalf of Mr Abney - Hastings, Ms Lee and I, we wish all of our families a safe and relaxing break and a time to reflect on the wonderful experiences and learning environment we have at the College. We look forward to Term 4 and the opportunity to complete the school year with vigour, enthusiasm and school pride.

Mr Panas

VALE MELANDRE The Lakes would like to celebrate the incredible life of Melandre. It is with great sadness that we acknowledge his passing this week, however it is with great fondness that we remember the joy and positive impact that he has had on our College community.

PRODUCTIVE PATHWAYS

At The Lakes South Morang College, we believe in empowering students to explore their interests and prepare for successful futures.

Here's a snapshot of our comprehensive pathway planning journey:

At Year 9 , students begin their pathways planning journey with the commencement of electives, the development of Career Action Plans and Morrisby testing. These tools help students identify their strengths, interests, and potential career pathways, laying a strong foundation for their future choices. Our dedicated Careers subject allows students to explore professions, develop resumes and the soft skills needed to excel – both at school and in the workforce, including: communication, teamwork, problem - solving, adaptability, time management, resilience, leadership, creativity, and conflict resolution. At Year 10 , students gain valuable real - world insights through Work Experience programs, Career Expos and Real - World Job Interviews. These practical, hands - on experiences allow them to explore various industries, develop essential skills, and make informed decisions about their future career paths - all critical steps in the career journey. Students participate in mock interviews, and personalised coaching to equip them with the confidence, communication skills, and interview etiquette needed to excel in real - world job interviews. To achieve this, they present themselves professionally, articulate their strengths, and demonstrate their readiness to thrive in the workplace. At the Senior School level, we offer Early - Entry Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs , providing students with opportunities to start their vocational training while still in school. Similarly, Early - Entry Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) options enable students to accelerate their academic journeys and pursue advanced studies aligned with their interests.

School - based apprenticeships and traineeships are also offered at The Lakes, enabling valuable opportunities for students to combine their education with practical work experience, which allow them to gain industry - specific skills, earn qualifications, and build networks while completing their secondary education. School - based apprenticeships and traineeships provide a hands - on learning experience, preparing students for future careers and enhancing their employability. Our school works closely with industry partners to facilitate these opportunities, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training and support to succeed in their chosen fields.

As Year 12 students progress towards completion of their senior years, our dedicated team assists them in navigating the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) application process. We ensure that students are well - prepared to apply for tertiary education and make informed choices about their post - school pathways.

Career Counseling throughout their senior years, students receive personalised career counseling and guidance, helping them explore career options, understand industry trends, and develop tailored pathways plans aligned with their aspirations.
