Multiple Drug Trafficking and Distribution Arrests

The Dekalb County SRT was mobilized and responded to the residence. After attempting to call Johnson out of the residence, SRT members entered the residence and took him into custody. Johnson was charged with Fugitive from Justice and is currently incarcerated in the Dekalb County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Bradley County, TN. The Dekalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit has assisted in the arrest of two fugitives wanted by the United States Marshal Service. According To Dekalb County Sheriff Nick Welden, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, The Dekalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit went to an address on County Road 764 in Henagar to assist Deputy US Marshals in the apprehension of Kyle Wyatt Martin (age 20 of Henagar). Martin was wanted by the USMS for a Robbery 1st warrant out of Calhoun County, Alabama and also had multiple felony warrants with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival at Martin’s address, he fled from the residence and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. He was charged with Attempt to Elude and Resisting Arrest on scene, as well as warrants for Possession with Intent to Distribute, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Martin will be extradited to Calhoun County upon the satisfaction of his charges in Dekalb County. On Thursday, January 8, 2026, The Dekalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit went to an address on Robin Hood Circle in Fyffe along with Deputy US Marshals in an attempt to locate Jonathan Johnson, (age 25 of Cleveland, Tenneesse). Johnson is a convicted sex offender and had an active warrant out of Bradley County Tennessee for SORNA violation. Fugitives Wanted by USMS Arrested in Dekalb County An Etowah County jury found Williams guilty, after hearing testimony from the minor victim that included details of the recurring sexual abuse, sodomy and rape that began when she was only nine (9) years old, and continued for more than two years. Williams received a sentence of life imprisonment for each of the charges of Rape in the First Degree and Sodomy in the First Degree (2 counts), and 20 years for the Sexual Abuse of a Child less than 12. The sentences were ordered to run consecutively. In recent weeks, the Dekalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit and Dekalb County Deputies have made multiple arrests for Drug Trafficking and cases related to the distribution of narcotics in Dekalb County. “Our office will remain committed to aggressive enforcement efforts to combat the distribution of illegal drugs in our county,” said Sheriff Nick Welden about the following arrests. “We will never stop protecting our children and our community.” On December 17, 2025, the Dekalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit executed a narcotics search warrant in the 4000 block of County Road 429 in Fyffe. During the search warrant, a trafficking amount of methamphetamine, marijuana, pills, a large amount of US Currency, and two firearms were seized. At the conclusion of the search warrant, Bobbi Joe More, (age 65 of Fyffe), was charged with Trafficking-Methamphetamine, Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana 1st, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Addict in Possession of Pistol. On December 30, 2025, a Dekalb County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on County Road 159 near the intersection of County Road 141 in the Cartersville community. As the Deputy was attempting to identify the driver of the vehicle, the driver became non-compliant and refused to exit the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Damian L. Powell, (41 of Jasper, TN), was extricated from the vehicle by Deputies and detained. Powell was found to be concealing a stolen pistol on his person, and the Dekalb County K-9 Unit as well as Agents with the Dekalb County Drugs and Major Logan Thomas Williams appeared before Judge Cody Robinson on Thursday, January 8, 2026, for sentencing following his convictions on charges of Rape in the First Degree, two counts of Sodomy in the First Degree, and Sexual Abuse of a Child less than 12 years of age. Brent Rhodes Qualifies To Run For DeKalb County Commission President Brent Rhodes has qualified to run for DeKalb County Commission President. The Primary election is set for May 19, 2026. Rhodes, a longtime public servant and business owner, stated that his decision to seek the office is driven by a commitment to deliver efficient governance and better results for Dekalb County taxpayers. He emphasized the need for modern equipment and improved operational practices across county departments, particularly the Road Department, in order to reduce waste, increase productivity, and support employees. “Dekalb County deserves a government that works with the same efficiency and accountability that we expect from our businesses and institutions,” Rhodes said. “With the right priorities and better planning, we can improve the services residents depend on while being responsible stewards of their tax dollars.” Rhodes also highlighted the importance of long-term economic development, securing grants, and reducing the county’s dependence on outdated methods of project management. He outlined a collaborative, growth-focused approach intended to create stronger opportunities for families, workers, and local employers. “This campaign is about the future of Dekalb County,” Rhodes added. “It’s about providing our employees the tools they need, investing wisely, and ensuring the public can trust that county government is operating with integrity, transparency, and purpose.” "Our community deserves leaders who answer to the people — not politics. Rhodes, who is a lifelong resident of DeKalb County, stated he intends to meet with voters across the county throughout the campaign to hear concerns and share solutions. Crimes Unit responded to the traffic stop. During a search of the vehicle, a trafficking amount of Methamphetamine was discovered along with marijuana. Powell was found to be a convicted violent felon, and was charged with Trafficking-Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess Pistol, Receiving Stolen Property 2nd (Firearm), and Tampering with Physical Evidence. On January 6, 2026, The Dekalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at North Pointe Apartments in Fort Payne. During the execution of the search warrant, a large amount of cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia was discovered in the targeted apartment. At the conclusion of the search warrant, Cephas Dewayne Dotley (66 of Fort Payne) and Lillie Bell Chaney (52 of Fort Payne) were both charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On January 7, 2026, a Deputy with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on County Road 155 in Higdon. During the course of the traffic stop and a subsequent search of the vehicle, a Trafficking amount of Fentanyl was discovered. Lynn Edward Clements (61 of Higdon) and Kimberly Annette Stinnett (56 of Higdon) were both charged with Trafficking-Fentanyl and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Clements also had Failure to Appear warrants from previous charges in Dekalb County and was arrested on those warrants as well.
