later chaired FIRST’s Implementation and Communi- cation Subcommittee and held vital roles with the Flex Quality Consortium, where he now serves on the executives committee. President’s Award Jean Engelke of RR Donnelly and El Señor Luis No- varo, President of Distribuidor Gráfica Novaro, were awarded the 2017 President’s Award. Jean Engelke is current program chair for the Flexo Quality Consortium (FQC), driving this team of vol- unteers since 2013. The group works to give FTA members an enhanced grasp of knowledge in the as- pects governing parameters of the flexographic printing process. Engelke has served as judge in the Excellence in Flexography Awards Competition, organized the An- nual Forum as co-chair in 2009 and chair in 2010, and commencing at the meeting, she has joined the FTA Board of Directors and FFTA Board of Trustees for her three-year term of office. Luis Novaro continues to produce a diverse mix- ture of educational resources, arranging seminars and interpreting and circulating training materials. He completed six year service on the FTA Board of Di- rectors and FFTA Board of Trustees. As a proactive partner in a number of FTA initiatives, Novaro has served on the Editorial Advisory Board for FLEXO Español, authored multiple articles, contributed to a distinct learning software training program and stood as a loyal representative for the progress of indi- viduals in the community for a very long time. Sustainability Excellence Awards This year, FTA presented Artcraft Label Inc. of On- tario, Canada, and Polymount International of New- nan, Georgia, as the winners of the Sustainability Excellence Award, and Heritage Envelopes Ltd. of Lancashire, UK with an honorable mention. This award is given to companies for exceptional efforts in developing innovative, processes, products and management approaches that have had a positive im- pact on the three mainstays of sustainability – peo- ple, planet and profit. Artcraft Label Inc., a producer of pressure sensitive la- bels and focused on helping to grow small to medium sized brands, has been a member of FTA for six years. Due to an industry-wide movement to improve re- covery of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) thermo- form clamshell containers in 2012,Artcraft Label Inc., a producer of pressure sensitive labels, took on the initiative of creating eco-friendly,“cost neutral” labels.
