Q . Colorado Spring*, Colorado — “In the Song of Solomon we find, the phrase, 7 am black but comely.’ Does this indi cate that the writer was perhaps a Negro?” A. No, it does not. The human writer was Solomon, the son of David who came from the tribe of Judah. The best interpretation of the Word of God is the Word of God itself. In the fifth verse of chapter one we read, “I am black, but comely.” Then in verse six, “Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon (scorched) me.” The young lady in the home is imposed upon by the rest of the family. She was forced to work out in the vineyards and as a result her complexion was darkened through sun burn. Q . Los Gatos, California — “In Matthew 12:31 and 32 we read , ‘Wherefore I say unto you, A ll manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the- Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever spedketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven, him: but whosoever spedketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in the world to come.’ What is the meaning of this?” A. There have been numerous inter pretations to the unpardonable sin. Basically, however, the context reveals that it is attributing the works of the devil to the Holy Spirit and, in effect, making the Holy Spirit a liar. The pur pose of the Holy Spirit today is to bring men to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. If a person re

fuses to accept the Lord Jesus Christ, he will not receive forgiveness and eter nal life. In the phrase “the world to come, it actually is better translated “the age to come.” A person who rejects Jesus Christ during life on earth will not have the opportunity of salvation in the life to come. Q . British Columbia — “Why did the Lord Jesus Christ in Luke 22:36 say that they had to buy a sword while in other places he seems to condemn peo ple for taking a sword?” A. We read, “Then he said unto them. But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” This statement was given by our Lord at the end of His earthly ministry. The time element is very important in understanding why the Lord made this statement. The Saviour knows that He is going to be rejected. This of course He knew from all eternity. Since He will be gone, a different situation will prevail. More and more antagonism would be experi enced with less reception from the en tire nation of Israel. So the disciple is to provide for the things of this life as well as for his defense. Q . Portland, Oregon — “In Luke 14:12 we read, ‘Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsman, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee? Does this mean we are not to invite company in for a meal?” A. No, it does not mean this. This is
