PROJECT

LITTLE VICTORIA STREET STUDENT ACCOMMODATION, BELFAST

FIRE DETECTION & LIFE SAFETY

GENERATOR SUPPLY & INSTALLATION

SYSTEMS G4S Fire & Security Systems (UK) was contracted by Fox Electrical Contracts (FEC) for the supply and commissioning of fire detection and life safety systems for Little Victoria Street, Belfast. To offer life protection for the 15-storey, purpose-built student accommodation, the challenge was to provide an innovative technology- integrated solution to meet the fire strategy for the building.

iPower Ireland Ltd supplied a standby diesel generator,

supported the electrical contractor with design calculations and advice, and provided test and

commissioning services for the Little Victoria Street Student Accommodation project. Paul O’Neill, Operations Manager, said, “This is a classic example of iPower’s vast expertise in supply, installation and commissioning of Cummins diesel generators for large-scale construction projects.

The products chosen by G4S to create a comprehensive safety solution included a fire detection and alarm system by Honeywell GENT, fire paging system by Scope and integrated disabled refuge and assisted toilet alarm system by SigTel. Collaboration was essential to guarantee a smooth project handover. James Beattie, Account Director at G4S, said, “Early detailed design by Caldwell Consulting ensured the installation and, significantly, the interfacing to third party systems was detailed comprehensively. This afforded an efficient method of installation and ensured that we had confidence the fire strategy for the building could be achieved. “It’s great to continue our long-established working relationship with both McAleer & Rushe and Caldwell Consulting. Our Project Engineer Stuart Russell worked closely with Mark Fox (Managing Director, FEC) to ensure we remain a trusted supply chain partner for further projects with the company.”

“Our experience in the sector, coupled with the unparalleled performance and reliability of Cummins Power Generation, ensures that iPower is able to support customers with generators and auto-transfer switches which comply with the rigorous performance requirements set out in BS 8519:2020 and BS 9999:2017.” Paul also stated that iPower was extremely impressed with the professionalism and rigour of Fox Electrical Contracts and McAleer & Rushe at all stages of the project. iPower is an authorised reseller of Cummins Power Generation products, enabling them to support the most complex and demanding construction project requirements. It has a modern manufacturing facility in Dungannon Co Tyrone, which specialises in producing high-kVA acoustic containers and bespoke EU Stage V emissioned generators.
