By James Barrie T he temperatures in the U.S. might be on the rise this summer, but do not look for cheers from the U.S. federal gov- ernment. In June the U.S. Federal Government’s Treasury Department posted a $6 billion budget surplus down $44 billion when compared to a surplus of $50 billion in the same month a year earlier. According to the Treasury Department’s monthly budget statement, the current fiscal year-to-date deficit stood at $401 billion, with revenue last month totalling $330 billion, while spending was at $323 billion. Accounting for calendar adjustments, June would have shown a surplus of $10 billion compared to an adjusted surplus of $50 billion for June 2015.
This is not good news for a government that is heading into an election in November where the message has been to make America great again.
