IN CHRIST IS LIFE ■
Freedom From Anxiety A friend o f mine who is a producer of a network Christian broadcast recently had lunch with the account-executive in charge of placing the program. M y friend asked the account-executive what type of a religious broadcast would interest him. The man thought a moment and then said: “ It would have to be something that would help me today. It would have to be something that would make m y home-life go smoother.” He glanced away and was silent for a few minutes. Then he looked up and said in a barely audible whisper: “ Life is one terrible mess. It just doesn’t have meaning.” I like that account-executive. He’s an honest man. Apart from a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ, life doesn’t make sense. L ife doesn’t have any real meaning. The trouble is that most of us don’t take the effort to pin-point the problem like this man did. Most of us realize that there is a vague cloud of anxiety hovering about us. Deep inside ■ we’re unhappy. W e try to forget our anxiety, but it’s still there— deep inside. King Solomon wrote about it nearly 3,000 years ago. “ There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.” W e realize this today. But is this the way life should be? Is there no philosophy of life that makes sense? Yes, there is. There is a way of life that makes sense today. A w ay of life that can make sense for you. A fter all, you are interested in life that has meaning for you . . . for you this very day, this very minute. Yesterday is gone forever. Tomorrow is forever unobtainable. Today is yours. This very minute is yours. Look to Christ now. Augustine said: “ Thou hast made us for T h y self, O God, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in Thee.” You can have that rest now. In Christ is Life. “ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” These words— this promise— are for you this minute. “ But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” H ow can you believe? Jesus said: “ If anyone wills to do His will he shall understand the teaching.” This is the answer. Simply open your will to His will. Simply say: “ Lord, I’m willing. Cause me to understand.” And He will. W on ’t you join me in a prayer to this end? Right now, God, we want to talk to you about this person, this one person who, as he reads this page, has the desire for something better. A desire for a way of life that makes sense . . . a way of life that has full-orbed meaning. Hear this one per son’s cry for help. Cause this one person’s w ill to be open to T h y will. Cause this one person to literally, completely cast his life in T h y hands. Put Thine arms of love about this one person and give him complete assurance of sins forgiven as he belives on Jesus Christ. In our Saviour’s Name, Amen. - L.H.
