3 EVENTS TO CHANGE THE FUTURE Eventique Brings Your Aspirations to Life
T he Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has an ambitious dream: to protect every animal in the country from harm. Their vision includes finding families for dogs and cats stranded on the streets, of course — but it doesn’t stop there. They also picture a future without factory farming, animal testing, or the use of the fur, leather, and other animal products in the clothing we wear every day. Upending the fur and leather industries may seem impossible, but when HSUS came to Eventique with that mission, the team embraced it! Their strategists decided to live by the maxim “If you can see it, you can believe it,” and on Friday, Nov. 11, they painted a picture of that cruelty-free fashion future during HSUS’s “To the Rescue!” gala. When guests stepped inside, they were enveloped by warm autumnal lighting and dazzled by enormous, stylized leaves “falling” from the ceiling and sprouting from the floor. Origami centerpieces in the shape of foxes, pigs, elephants, rabbits, and dogs crouched on the tabletops, and a nearby installation highlighted vegan clothing and accessories from Neiman Marcus, side-by-side with an “Innovation Lab” curated by Material Innovation Initiative (MII). The lab invited guests to rethink their closets, showcasing companies creating game-changing vegan fabrics and other sustainable materials. Clusters of mushrooms sprouted from the Mylo Unleather display, artfully arranged next to a purse made from mycelium (mushroom) leather. “HSUS has been doing this annual fundraiser for 13 years, so we always have to reimagine the event,” says Eventique Vice
President of Creative and Strategy Eric Wielander. “This year, the theme was ‘fashion forward’ … A big part of the show was focused on these new, innovative companies that make scarves out of orange fiber, clutches out of apple leather, and shoes out of mushroom leather.” Andy Cohen hosted the event, while celebrities like Amy Sedaris and Justin Theroux wandered through, bidding on one-of-a-kind items, including a vegan “To the Rescue!” sweater and posing for Instagram shots at the Neiman Marcus photo moment. The night ended with a video that brought the origami animal centerpieces to life for a disco boogie — and left attendees inspired to fund a future they previously didn’t think possible. The “To the Rescue!” gala was one of many Eventique events that have dared attendees to reimagine the world they live in.
