From the Dining Room to the Board Room HOW EVENTIQUE’S ELLIOT MARACH LEVELED UP
As Elliot Marach sees it, coordinating high-level events for Eventique has a lot in common with waiting tables. Both fast- paced jobs bring you face to face with people from all walks of life, ranging from ordinary Joes to fashion, technology, and real estate executives. “That is probably my favorite part of this job,” he says, referring to his position as senior project coordinator at Eventique. “On any given day, I could be talking to a vendor with a small company out of Long Island or a huge real estate conglomerate with a global presence. I’m often interacting with them back to back, and that change of characters is something I really love.” The back-and-forth reminds him of his college days, when he took orders at restaurants and picked up catering gigs to finance his bachelor’s degree in musical theater. “I associate [the work at Eventique] with greeting a table for the first time [as a server] and dealing with 10–20 tables through the night. Those people come from different walks of life and have different personalities. I had to be able to relate
to them and create the vision that they wanted for the night. That process was really gratifying.” Between his serving gig in college and joining the Eventique team last fall, Elliot stretched his event-planning muscles in Hollywood. He helped coordinate high-pressure premieres for movie studios as part of an event consulting company based in Los Angeles. During those Hollywood days, Elliot learned how to juggle dozens of tasks and perform the near impossible for clients in a high-stress environment. Today, he puts his skills and versatility to work at Eventique. In his short time with the company, he has already worked on large-scale events, like eCore22 and the WorkWave Annual Conference, and has dozens more on the calendar. Between site visits, he stays busy taking client calls, sending quotes, pitching event ideas to PR firms, creating floor plans and mood boards, compiling budgets, and coordinating with unique vendors like glass blowers and drone pilots. “Seeing the event come to life is the cherry on top, and day-to- day getting there is never the same adventure,” he says.
