Our impact

About us Newton was established in 2001 by three friends – Tom, Kevin and Andy. They believed consulting should be done differently. It shouldn’t be about delivering reports; it should be about designing and implementing solutions alongside clients, that deliver meaningful impact. Since then, we’ve partnered with our clients on some of the nation’s most complex challenges in the public and private sectors. Working across the Consumer, Public and Defence & Infrastructure markets, we’ve helped transform organisations, and deliver meaningful impact for their people and the communities they serve. A career at Newton is a purposeful and conscious choice. It takes curiosity, resilience and responsibility from day one. It takes a data-driven mindset and human-centred approach. It takes hands-on learning and grit to see things through to the end. The determination to pursue excellence and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. All while working with a team of bright minds. All to create meaningful, lasting change. Turning strategic goals into real-world impact We pride ourselves on going above and beyond to deliver meaningful impact. It’s why 100% of our implementation fees are guaranteed on delivering measurable outcomes and why you’ll quickly see the difference you make as a result of the work you do.

£2 billion+ savings on a national defence programme while also reducing delivery timelines

Your impact

The Consultant role

The Consultant programme is designed to provide you with the necessary combination of support, autonomy and opportunity so you can learn to deliver real results immediately.

You’ll be surrounded by dynamic, curious and intellectual minds who’ll motivate and inspire you to be your best. Over two years you’ll progress to Senior Consultant as you work on a real mix of projects that make a tangible difference to how organisations work. Here, you’ll be encouraged, empowered and trusted to deliver excellence and tackle challenges together. Working with more experienced Consultants, you’ll partner with your clients to build change where it matters most. Transforming businesses and

industries takes grit and determination; you’ll be genuinely invested in your projects and committed to seeing them through from the start to finish. That ownership means you’ll develop fast. Whether it’s helping a local council support older people to retain their independence, or reshaping how entire organisations operate, you’ll see the tangible impact of your hard work. And as we expand internationally, you’ll increasingly have the opportunity to contribute and potentially lead large-scale global projects.

04

Specialisms Complex challenges require sophisticated approaches. Our core Operations, Digital and People & Change capabilities have diverse teams in place to deliver the best outcomes for clients. Over your first two years with us, you’ll build a broad skill set to understand our business and the Newton methodology, and explore your strengths. From your second year onwards, you’ll start to specialise in a specific pathway within one of these core capabilities. All our Consultants need to build a core Operations Consultant skill set regardless of which career pathway they go down while at Newton. Day-to-day, our Operations Consultants work hand-in-hand with clients, mapping processes and analysing data to identify opportunities to unlock complexity and unravel the knottiest problems that clients are experiencing. Working on client sites – from the shop floor to the boardroom, and everywhere in between – they plan and implement the changes to deliver real, sustainable change.

Digital and People & Change Consultants have developed all the knowledge and skills of Operations Consultants, but opt to specialise further as they progress in their career.

People & Change At the heart of everything we do, there are people – and our People & Change Consultants are experts in making the change we bring to our clients come to life. Whether implementing digital, operational or cultural changes, they work alongside people within our client organisations to manage change before, during and beyond implementation.

Digital Bright-minded and future-focused, our Digital Consultants identify where data and technology can benefit a business. Whether that is using new tech or building our own solutions, Digital Consultants bring industry- leading, even industry-changing, approaches to our clients’ challenges.

Conversations with Edie

Edie studied a maths degree at university, but the last thing she wanted was to be put in a room to crunch numbers. She loved drama subjects and finding ways to connect with people. After discovering our graduate opportunities, she knew Newton was the right fit for her. “I’m both a numbers and a people person. All of Newton’s approaches are analytical and data-driven, but you also need to be able to communicate with people. It was the perfect fit for me.” Now a Senior Consultant, Edie’s work focuses on operational processes and efficiency; analysing data systems and ways of working to discover how processes can be improved. From day one to delivery, she’s partnered with clients across numerous projects to deliver meaningful impact. “I most recently worked with a regulated utilities company to see what solutions and governance we could implement to help them improve their business processes. Our solutions achieved real positive change, and part of that was being able to reduce their environmental impact. It was a really rewarding project to work on.” But for Edie, the people side of things is what she enjoys most: building trusting relationships and making an impact for the people working within the businesses she’s helping.

“I once worked with an engineering company where the engineers were frustrated due to not having the parts they needed. They weren’t very engaged when we first started; there was maybe a lack of trust. But we took them along the journey, helped them understand the data and by the end they were so much more engaged. We felt trusted. And that’s what makes us different as Consultants: we don’t tell people what to do; we facilitate them to help find solutions together.” Along her journey, Edie has faced complex challenges, but found that asking questions “Walking onto an aircraft hangar and not knowing much about engineering can be daunting. Or coming into a project with a utility company and having to quickly build our knowledge about that industry. But our job isn’t always to know; it’s to be there to ask questions, learn, and work out how I can help. Knowing my purpose within a project is what has allowed me to make the most impact. and realising her purpose within a workstream is what helped most.

07

How we work

We don’t impose change; we build it in partnership with our clients, so our impact is made to last.

We relish the journey as much as the destination. The impact that we and our clients make is why we exist, but we take time to have fun and forge friendships along the way. We work as a team onsite with the client across the country so we can deliver the best possible results. Success happens when we work hand-in-hand with clients as partners. We seek, never guess – as every challenge is unique. We approach each one with an open mind, making decisions from facts, not gut feel or first impressions. In your first few weeks after joining, you’ll be travelling to work on live projects, working with a wide range of people from different levels of the client’s organisation. By working shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, our people can see client problems first-hand and immerse themselves in their world, working collaboratively and building relationships to develop change.

How we work

Role expectations This is anything but an ordinary nine-to-five role. Our Consultants get to travel across the UK and are invited by clients to work directly alongside them on some of our country’s most complex challenges. It’s dynamic, exciting, varied and no two days are ever the same. Sometimes this can mean early starts and late finishes, but we understand that work-life balance is important. That’s why you’re not expected to leave home before 6am on a Monday, or be home later than 6pm on a Friday, or work weekends.

Newton keeps you on your toes and my role can look different from one project to the next. At the moment, my project is a quick commute from home, but on my next project, I could be anywhere in the UK or even overseas! It is super dynamic here and I love using my evenings to explore what each new location has to offer! We work hard but we are rewarded by getting to work on some of the most prominent projects taking place in the UK today. Every day is exciting!” Lucy, Consultant

10

I really enjoy Review Days! It’s always a fantastic opportunity to get insight into the other projects working across a range of industries, and learn what’s going on in the company as a whole. The whole company gets together, so it is a great chance to get to know colleagues of all seniorities.”

Ikechi, Consultant

Review Days We believe in bringing people together, and Review Days do just that. Review Days are in-person days, hosted fortnightly either with your team, cluster or the whole company and take place across different locations around the UK. Review Days give you the chance to workshop project challenges together with a wider group to share new ideas, perspectives and expertise. The group will reflect on their experiences from both past and current projects to offer solutions to your client’s specific challenge. At Review Days, you’ll either run a workshop or input on other client challenges, learning about the work taking place across Newton. Before Review Days, we get together at Review Nights, to relax and meet new colleagues through a variety of fun and new activities. Everyone across the consulting team is encouraged to attend.

It goes beyond being colleagues. I’ve built some amazing friendships through the people I’ve met working at Newton.”

16

Conversations with Nikhil

Nikhil is a Senior Operations Consultant working with clients in defence to help drive long term national programmes. He first discovered Newton when our Consultants were visiting his university. “I didn’t want to be chained to a desk doing the same thing every day. I was looking for a career with variety. I spoke to Newton Consultants about what their days look like, the industries they worked in and the impact of their jobs, and everything seemed so exciting.” He applied to Newton twice and was unsuccessful, but he didn’t let that stop him. Nikhil was certain this role at Newton was right for him, and – third time lucky – he was successful. “During the selection process I met amazing people and just couldn’t picture myself working anywhere else. The selection process reflects the actual job, and I just knew it was the right fit. You’re not applying the repeated cycle of a process. You’re solving a different problem every time that needs a unique solution. It took me a few tries, but I took on the feedback I received each time I was unsuccessful and applied myself to improve.” And since joining, Nikhil has gone on to make lifelong friends at Newton. He believes that it’s the balance of fun and delivery that makes the culture here so special. “As soon as you join, you’re immersed in the culture. There are social events, Activity days, N-weekends and the annual ski trip,

which I look forward to every year. We build close relationships, and it means that when you walk into a room at Newton, you know most of the people in it. During the week, I work with my colleagues and still enjoy seeing them on the weekends as friends.” It’s these opportunities to connect with his colleagues outside of the day-to-day that helps Nikhil and his teams deliver in their roles as Consultants. “We’re not acquaintances. And because of our close relationships, we’re able to be more open with each other. That means that we don’t have to beat around the bush; we get to the point, we work efficiently and get to the end goal. It’s a truly authentic place to work.” And it’s the special culture at Newton and tight-knit relationships that Nikhil believes leads to a greater impact for clients and their challenges. “The culture is built on trust. You’re given responsibility and encouraged to fail fast, because it helps you learn fast. The feedback culture is so constructive that you don’t feel like you’re getting judged for failures, but genuine guidance on how to improve. The confidence you build from that empowers you, and it means you can bring greater expertise to clients’ problems.

In my first week on site, I was running a meeting with a high-profile client, trying to discover what their problem was. It does put a lot of pressure on you, but there’s a lot of support too.”

22

Conversations with Alexander

Alexander joined Newton in November 2024, and since joining has worked as a New Operations Consultant across multiple different projects, getting to the bottom of his clients’ biggest operational problems. “I’ve been given more responsibility and the chance to take on more ownership of the work. It’s no longer just about finding solutions but identifying the client’s problem in the first place.” From the very start, Alexander found himself onsite, running a meeting with a high-profile client. It’s this sort of hands-on learning that he believes has accelerated his growth and led to him taking on bigger projects in just less than a year. “It does put pressure on you, but there’s a lot of support here too. I have my development manager who I work with to stay on track of my long-term career progression, and my line manager who supports me on day-to-day tasks and pushes my skills development.” Looking back between now and his first day, Alexander is most proud of how much he has developed his interpersonal skills and the impact this has brought to his clients. “It’s helped me leverage client relationships to achieve certain goals. For example, I once needed some data from the client, but their database was vast. I worked with them to map out exactly how we needed the data pulled and fed back to me, and this meant that time was used more efficiently. We were able to get to the solution much faster.”

Partnering with clients face-to-face gives Alexander the chance to build stronger relationships, but travelling for work was actually something he found challenging at the beginning of his journey. “Working onsite is always exciting, but there are times where the lines become blurred between work and life, especially when you’re at a hotel having dinner with the team after spending all day together. But we’re given support; we’re encouraged to go to the gym, to eat dinner on our own if we need time to recharge, and to call our families. We do travel a lot, but we’re empowered to make sure that we’re getting what we want out of our wellbeing.” And with more opportunities on the horizon, Alexander is looking forward to taking on bigger projects, and continuing to solve his clients’ biggest challenges. “I’m excited to lean further into outcome- focused thinking as I take on larger scope projects. I’ve already started taking more ownership and having more autonomy, so I’m excited to see this lead to impact for our clients.
