A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 8

We have finished our Open Morning tours and I have to say I have been incredibly impressed by the levels of maturity shown by our Year 8 Tour Guides as they showed Year 6 parents and students around the school.

We had a fantastic Black History Month assembly on Wednesday with Mrs Dhir and we hope that students found it inspiring and thought provoking.

Our epraise totals for this week are as follows: 1st place 8EFR; 2nd 8EMU and 3rd 8SGZ. Great work to all those who have been awarded epraise points this week. Please remind your child that you can be awarded epraise both in lessons and form times for: working collaboratively, great work and homework, supporting each other, engagement in class activities, helping in the classroom, and supporting the teacher/ tutor. Next week we have our Autumn Drop Down Day which is focused around African Culture. There will be lots of fun and engaging activities organised for our Year 8s and we hope that they approach the day with positive and excitement.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The weight of water by Sarah Crossan

The weight of water is written in a poetic form of sparse verse and so it is a very quick and easy read but one that is absolutely teeming with heartache and beauty. It follows a young polish girl as she and her mother migrate to the UK in search of her father, she struggles with her school and home life and feels out of place and lonely. I loved how engrossing and impactful such few words could be and how the audience can see all the protagonists insecurities yet also how incredibly strong, intuitive and resilient she is through all the hardship she endures. It’s a touching coming of age story which explores feelings of alienation, first loves and perseverance.
