A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11

This week Year 11 have been continuing to prepare themselves for their forthcoming mock exams. They now have all the information they need to fully revise for each subject and should be continuing to follow their revision timetable. The Year 10/11 Rugby team played their first match against RTS on Tuesday. It was a tough challenge as RTS fielded a very experienced team. Waldegrave lost the match with a score of 15-50 points. Well done to all those who took part and especially to Anesu and Jay for the tries they scored. The team will face more matches later on this half term and we encourage them to attend training after school on Tuesday. Well done to 11SAS who are top of the tutor group leaderboard this term with 208 points. With 11PON in second place with 203 points and 11ESU in third place with 142 points. Our Silver DofE students set off on their assessed expedition yesterday and are now spending the rest of today and tomorrow camping and hiking in the New Forest. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures upon their return to school on Monday. On Monday and Tuesday our GCSE Geography students will be taking part in their Residential field trip to Juniper Hall. We hope that they have a positive experience and complete all the work that will support their GCSE course. Good luck to the Year 10 & 11 Netball team who are taking part in the RSSP tournament next Friday.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini

“I opened my mouth, almost said something. Almost. The rest of my life my life might have turned out differently if i had. But I didn’t” The kite runner is a novel about two young boys growing up in Afghanistan during the 70s and 80s, one excessively wealthy and desperate to please his father, the other, the son of his father’s servant with a religious standing that leads to him being further oppressed form an unlikely friendship that is torn apart after a life changing incident. Their personal lives then take them in very different directions due to the political turmoil of the country but the impact their friendship left on eachother lasts a lifetime. It explores how complex relationships are and how peoples connections and their life experiences shape who they are. Personally, I loved following how the characters changed and developed throughout the book and how even through war, abuse and prejudice, love prevailed.
