with me. It makes fo r a bad situar tion. Is there any real reason fo r this?’’ A. The reasons are mental, emotion al, and spiritual. All of us are irri table at times. Moses, one of the meekest men who lived, became so irritated with Israel that he struck the rock twice, against the specific command of God. As a result, he was not allowed to enter the prom ised land. There are plenty of things in every household to irritate all of us. Please remember this old axiom, “Fire begets fire.” When your hus band gets home, he is in a familiar environment where he can really “be himself.” At work he is not able “to let off steam” the way you have been able to do at home. He has had to retain his composure. When he comes home, he no doubt expects you to be in a good mood, but just the opposite may be true. There is a wonderful word of assurance from the Old Tes tament, however, which most cer tainly touches the heart, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee” (Isa. 26 :3 ). This is the motto each of us needs for our hearts as well as for our homes. This means not only peace of soul, but also peace of mind, nerves, and emotions, in every way. If you know your husband’s coming home at 5:30 p.m., sit down and meditate some where for just five minutes. In a prayerful mood ask, “Lord, quiet my nerves; may I give a smiling coun tenance and a truly loving welcome to my husband.” Your whole evening will be changed. * * * The person who is too big to do little things is probably too little to be trusted with big things. * * * Living without faith is like driving in the fog. * * * Make Sunday your strong day and you'll find that the rest of your time will not be weak days. 30
Q. San Francisco, Calif. — “Why do ministers attack Pilate fo r doing his duty in turning Jesus over fo r cru cifixion when the Jew s accused J e sus o f blasphemy and seeking to set up a kingdom opposed to Rome? Did Pilate not defend Jesu s as fa r as he could by saying ‘I find no fault in Him’ and by refusing to yield to wanted him to alter the inscription on the cross to say ‘I am King o f the Jew s?’ ” A. The reason for attacking Pilate is because the Bible denounces him. See Acts 4:27. Ministers have a right to condemn Pilate. He was not doing his duty. Extra contemporary Biblical history such as that of Josephus, who did not take the Jews’ viewpoint, indicates that Pilate had done many things against the reli gious sensibilities of the Israelites. He didn’t live in Jerusalem, to begin with. He went down there at the high holidays to see that there were no riots. Otherwise he stayed where he knew he would be safe. While the Jews accuse Christ of blasphemy, what kind of a judge was this to take the testimony of only one side? He himself said “I find no fault in Him.” Why did he have Him cruci fied illegally? Pilate’s was a desper ate compromise. It was also out of o rder for h im to have Jesus scourged. There is no excuse for Pilate any more than for those who said, “Away with Him! We have no king but Caesar.” Pilate didn’t de fend Jesus as far as he could. Pilate was the best example of how one can make a wrong decision by try ing to keep from making any deci sion at all. I f you don’t know the Lord as your Saviour, make a deci sion for Him today. It alone will count for all eternity. Q. Sacramento, Calif. — “Sometimes I get irritable, as I suppose most housewives do, but the thing that really irks me is that my husband takes that exact time to get upset
