A short vacation to Leelanau County, with its farms, rolling hills, and scenic dunes, convinced Max and Linda Proffitt that they wanted to return to northern Michigan someday—and tuning their radio to IPR assured them that they could call northern Michigan home. “For a station in a relatively small market, the quality of the work that they do stacks up to even the largest stations,” said Max. “They really strike the right balance between keeping us informed about national and global news while also providing local coverage that helps us get to know our own community better.” Since relocating to northern Michigan, Linda and Max have committed themselves to learning about and protecting the natural beauty that brought them to the region in the first place. “We care very deeply about science and the environment, and that’s why we have given to the science and environment desk at IPR,” noted Max. In addition to supporting IPR through their gifts, Linda also volunteers during IPR fundraising drives.

Classical music has always been a part of life for John and Sue Paul, who met in high school while performing in a pit orchestra. When they are driving the roads of northern Michigan together, or when John is carving in his workshop, Classical IPR is a reliable source of music and inspiration.

“Our connection to IPR is personal. They are a part of our community, and there is a real personality and connection that comes through for everyone in their audience. They’ve managed to adapt and modernize while also staying true to their roots, and we really appreciate that.”
