Interlochen Center for the Arts 2022 Annual Report

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS IN THE ARTS

“I remember writing about doing a project that involves using the wider resources at Interlochen when applying in ninth grade. In some way, a part of that dream was realized under the guidance of the faculty and the opportunities provided at Interlochen, leading me to create unexpected things. I am grateful to be able to learn under faculty who are always willing to support any ‘crazy’ ideas that students might have.”

Actor Joshua Brown and visual artist Quoc Vi Bui became the 49th and 50th Arts Academy students to be named Presidential Scholars in the Arts. This year’s highly prestigious and competitive awards recognized just 161 high school seniors from across the country, based on their academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, and demonstrated commitment to community service and leadership. Interlochen has produced more Presidential Scholars than any other high school in the United States and was—once again—the only school with two scholars this year.

2022 PRESIDENT’S AWARD IN ART

“Each year, the Interlochen president selects one or more art works for special recognition. Trey Devey chose Quoc Bui’s interactive works, one of which is pictured here. Quoc strives to inspire people, focusing on transitional spaces we move through (eg, a bench).”
