DIVISION ACHIEVEMENTS
CREATIVE WRITING The 2022 Interlochen Review featured submissions from high school students around the world. The publication was created and curated by students in the Literary Publications class, with significant contributions by editors in the Visual Arts Division. Two issues of The Red Wheelbarrow were also published, accompanied by launch readings featuring performances by Singer-Songwriter Program students.
FILM & NEW MEDIA Film & New Media announced the appointment of award-winning animator, researcher, and educator Briana Yarhouse as our inaugural Program Director of Animation. Interlochen’s new multidisciplinary curriculum includes courses in animation, film & new media, visual arts, creative writing, and music production & engineering, as well as theatre design and production.
DANCE The world-premiere production of Romeo & Juliet , with original choreography by Director of Dance Joseph Morrissey, aired on Detroit Public Television and is available for viewing on the PBS website and app. INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTS The Interdisciplinary Performance Collaboration class wrote, produced, and performed a jukebox musical called Old Familiar Places , a meditation on memory loss and family. Contemporary Music, Film & New Media, Interdisciplinary Arts, Singer- Songwriter, and Visual Arts majors were all represented.
THEATRE In April 2022, The Winter’s Tale ran in the Harvey Theatre, directed by Director of Theatre Arts Bill Church and produced in collaboration with Associate Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Esther Triggs to feature an accessible matinee performance during the run of Shakespeare’s classic tale.
