INTERLOCHEN PUBLIC RADIO
Interlochen Public Radio listener and self-described “news junkie” Jane Gale knows there are stories she can hear only on IPR. IPR’s stories about the ecosystems of northern Michigan, and of the Great Lakes, place it at the vanguard of envi- ronmental journalism. That’s why Jane made a special gift to the IPR Science and Conservation Journalism Fund—while continuing her support as a monthly IPR sustainer and a member of the IPR Producer’s Circle and Interlochen’s President’s Club.

Artistry and Companionship Inspire IPR Philanthropy
For Sheri Constantin, the music she enjoys on Classical IPR—often streamed directly from the IPR app through her hearing aids—is symbiotic with the art she creates. She’s been listening since she and her husband moved to Traverse City decades ago, when she first discovered the power of Classical IPR to inspire her in her art studio. Then, as now, “when it comes in my ears, it comes out of my fingers,” she describes.
• Excellence in Writing: “Rock Rehab” by Michael Livingston
• Feature Reporting: “We Got Jellyfish!” by Ellie Katz
• News Documentary: “No Ice is Safe Ice” by Dan Wanschura
IPR’s value to Sheri and husband Steve has grown since their move to South Carolina—it provides a vital connection to their former home in the north woods. The Constantins also love that IPR, through its distinct classical and news signals, offers a constant choice between music and talk. “To us, the real gem is that we’re in control of what we feel like listening to at the time,” they say. Steve and Sheri have committed to five years of support to IPR’s operating budget through the Annual Fund and to the IPR endowment, representing both short- and long-term investments. It’s an organic choice to give back. “I start the day with IPR in my pocket,” Sheri says. “It’s my companion.”
SIGNAL AWARDS An episode of Points North won twice in the 2023 Signal Awards, which “seek to honor and celebrate the people and con- tent that raise the bar for podcasting.” • Best Driveway Moment Podcast: “No Ice is Safe Ice” by Dan Wanschura: Silver Award and Listener’s Choice Award
“It’s our turn. This gift is a way of staying connected when we aren’t actually there.” — Sheri and Steve Constantin
