HERITAGE SOCIETY
Charlene Handleman—pictured (left) with stepdaughter Julie (right) and granddaughter and 2024 Camp student Lucia (center)—has made several significant gift commitments to Interlochen this year, all of which focus on broadening student access to arts education. One of Charlene’s gifts established the Marion and David Handleman Endowed Scholarship, which will provide a permanent basis of support for Academy and Camp students. The scholarship honors her late husband David, a former Interlochen Trustee, and his first wife Marion, a lover of museums who sparked David’s interest in the arts. Charlene also committed to several planned gifts through which her estate, upon her passing, will further expand the endowment for the Handleman Scholarship. “My entire family was profoundly impacted by my granddaughter’s experience at Camp this summer. To see her blossom and thrive was inspiring. While I created the scholarship this past year, seeing Interlochen’s impact on Lucia has inspired me to continue to support scholarships for deserving young artists at Interlochen.” — Charlene Handleman Bart and Gail Ingraham’s support for Interlochen Public Radio was as multifaceted as their love for art itself. Gail was a professional fiber artist, specializing in quilts; Bart was a talented classical vocalist (baritone/bass), a gifted sculptor, and a passionate fan of theatre. Together, they were avid supporters of both Classical IPR and IPR News as donors and pledge drive volunteers. Their legacy gift—a planned gift to IPR—was their grandest. After Bart’s passing in 2020 and Gail’s in 2021, a significant portion of their estate went to expanding the IPR endowment and supporting its Innovation Fund. “The Ingrahams’ wonderful planned gift will help sustain IPR’s award-winning journalism and world-class music programming. Thanks to Bart and Gail, our listening community will continue to receive new insights into their world and new sources of daily inspiration now and for decades to come.” — Peter Payette, IPR Executive Director
