Interlochen Center for the Arts 2024 Annual Report

A SPECIAL TRIBUTE

Recognizing the Impact of Trustee Claire Corson Skinner

With both sadness and profound gratitude, we honor the life of Claire Corson Skinner (IAC/NMC 71), who passed away recently after decades of generous service to Interlochen. Claire served on Interlochen’s Board of Trustees for seven years (2017-24). She was chair of the Audit & Risk Management Committee, vice-chair of both the Finance & Budget and the Nominating & Governance committees, and an active member of several other committees and task forces. Like her father—the late Tom Corson, a Life Trustee—Claire made an impact through her kind generosity, wise counsel, and friendship. “I’ve leaned on Claire too many times to count over these past seven years,” said Interlochen President Trey Devey. “During challenging moments, she always led.” Motivated by her strong belief in the transformative potential of the arts in young students’ lives, Claire and her husband Jim gave deeply and repeatedly to Interlochen. Claire and the Corson Family Foundation established endowed scholarships for students and visiting artists in both dance and musical theatre; funded the construction and later renovation of Corson Auditorium; and supported the waterfront revitalization along the shore of Green Lake, including the creation of Corson Park. Claire’s ultimate gift—a planned gift through her estate—ensures her legacy even further through increased support for scholarships and visiting artists. In these ways and more, Claire’s impact will endure for generations. We are grateful for all she gave—and, through her legacy, all she continues to give—to support journeys of artistry at Interlochen.
