THE HERITAGE SOCIETY All in for Interlochen
The Rubinow family: Stuart, Judith, and Banna (l-r)
Becoming a Heritage Society member was an easy decision for Banna Rubinow to make.
Banna and her siblings were tried and true campers, through and through. Stuart attended

six years (1955-60), Judith (1958-64) seven years, and Banna (1958-66), the youngest, spent nine years as a camper. Banna still wanted more of Interlochen and enrolled as an Arts Academy student. That was a tougher sell for her family.
She begged her parents to allow her to attend Academy.
Hesitant to let Banna leave home, her parents told her that she could go if she received a scholarship. However, they refused to complete the required application form.
Banna resolutely visited the Admission Office every day at Camp with a new reason for a policy exception. She was so persuasive that she was awarded a one-half tuition scholarship, becoming the first female theatre student to receive a scholarship to the Academy. Banna has come full circle in making a provision for an endowed scholarship at Interlochen in her estate. Thanks to Banna, future generations of Camp and Academy students can thrive at Interlochen—and start their own family traditions and legacies. "Nine summers at Camp permeated and enriched my entire life. What I learned about the arts, coupled with an astonishing number of enduring friendships, touches me in some way every single day. I couldn’t have attended the Academy without a scholarship. Although I’ve donated to Interlochen regularly for more than 50 years, I realized it was time to think about my legacy. Interlochen absolutely has to be a large part of it." — Banna Rubinow (IAC/NMC 58-66; IAA 66-67)
