Interlochen Center for the Arts 2021 Annual Report

VOLUNTEERS The Interlochen Annual Fund Committee: Support Near and Far

While the pandemic restricted campus access for much of the year, by mid-May volunteers began returning to plant flowers, work in Stone cafeteria, and sew in the Mallory Costume Shop—bringing a welcome step back toward normal. Some volunteers were able to work year-round. A few helped out on campus at the Dennison Center and at IPR. One off-campus group—Interlochen’s Annual Fund Committee (IAFC)—worked from all parts of the country to make sure people stayed connected to Interlochen. The IAFC is a passionate group of alumni, parents, and friends who serve as ambassadors for Interlochen by contacting members of the Interlochen family and personally inviting them to continue their support or thank them for their past support. Lesley Matheson stepped into the role as chair and welcomed new members Anni Denzel (IAC 99-04), Sarah Bye (ICA St 21), and Laurie Bayless (IAC St 84-91, 95-97, 02-04, 08; ICCA 11, 13). They joined the committee who called and wrote personal notes

to hundreds of donors encouraging them to continue supporting scholarships for exceptional student experiences. They are true champions of Interlochen—giving their time as well as their own gifts to the Annual Fund or Interlochen Public Radio. The IAFC is always welcoming new members. “My son Leland (IAC 14-17; IAA 17-21) graduated from IAA as a four-year trumpet major. I treasure the memories of every jazz performance, the thrill from the conductor’s magic with the orchestra, the frigid wintery nights in February, the sheer joy on the students’ faces post- performance. I loved every minute. IAA launched another performer into the world, one who wants to have an impact. I want to help support Interlochen for many years, to help ensure others, too, have this opportunity.” — Lesley Matheson
