Kelly Family Vineyards Spring 2019

SET SAI L FOR VACAT ION Take Your Next Trip Offshore

TAKE A DAY SAIL Many day-sail charters exist for those who want to go out a little farther than a dinghy would permit. If you’ve captained a boat and are familiar with the waters, you can apply for a bareboat charter. However, if you are inexperienced or simply don’t want a local guide at the helm, signing up for a day trip with a skipper and crew is a great option. DO A FULL CHARTER Short of owning your own vessel, chartering a boat for multiple nights is the closest you can get to living out your nautical dreams. Some of the most beautiful destinations on earth — from the Caribbean Sea to the Mediterranean — are best experienced from the deck of a sailboat. Letting the sea guide you to amazing snorkeling destinations, remote cays, and bustling harbors is the stuff of real adventure. You and your small group could also go on a Kelly Family Vineyards wine tasting cruise on the Napa River or the San Francisco Bay for an afternoon or evening of cruising on a catamaran sailboat. If you’re lucky enough to have been aboard a ship under full sail, chances are you know the thrill and serenity sailing can give you. If you’ve never been but have always wanted to know what it’s like to get out on the wind and waves, there are many great options available for beginners. Here are some ideas to inspire your next waterside vacation. START SMALL For those who dream of becoming a skipper one day, a great way to start is by sailing dinghies. These one-sail, beach-launch boats fit 1–2 people and can be rented at most water sports shops. If you want to make it a family experience, shops usually have 16-foot catamarans for rent as well. Catamarans have two hulls rather than one, making for a smoother, more spacious ride. If you’ve never sailed before, inquire about lessons. Most rental operations have instructors on hand who can show you the ropes. The great thing about sailing is that whether you’re in a 12-foot dinghy or a 60- foot sloop, the same basic principles, rules, and skills apply.

ADouble GoldMedal Red OUR 2014 CABERNET SAUV IGNON

The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon go together like brunch and bloody marys. The grape excels in the climate and produces wines of deep complexity. Kelly Family Vineyards 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, winner of two gold medals at the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, is no exception.

We strive to make wines that are both ready to drink upon release and capable of extended aging. The 2014 Cab, while beautiful right now, can easily be laid down for up to a decade while continuing to evolve and mature. Whether or not you can resist temptation that long is another matter entirely. Our 2014 Cab, like all of our offerings, is extremely limited and available by allocation only. We are a boutique, family-run winery that will never sacrifice quality to produce an increased number of cases. As such, we only make as many bottles as the vintage provides. Act now before this award-winning wine is gone forever. Go to KellyFamilyVineyards.com to reserve your spot on the Allocation List or to purchase our wines.

The grapes for this wine are grown in the Oak Knoll District. One of the cooler areas of Napa, wines from Oak Knoll gracefully balance power and finesse. We ferment our Cab fully before aging in oak, which is followed by a year of bottle aging. When you smell a glass of it, you’ll be hit with aromas of ripe blackberries, spiced plum, vanilla, and peppercorn. On the palate, you’ll find flavors of cassis, rose petal, and dark chocolate. The wine has firm but well- integrated tannins and finishes long. It’s the type of wine that will reveal a little more of itself to you with every sip. We recommend savoring it on its own or pairing it with a grilled steak, roast pork tenderloin, or other bodily flavored dishes. A wine of this caliber has no problem standing up to and enhancing food.
