MAKING OUR 2026 VISION

A Road Map for Success

Last March, we introduced our 2026 Vision, the new five-year vision following the completion of our prior five-year vision at the end of 2021. So, with 2022 in the books, we’re one year in. The 2026 Vision is all about reaching our potential as an organization for the benefit of our most important stakeholders: our employee-owners and our customers. Making an ambitious vision a reality requires two things — clear direction and pacing, which we have, and everyone doing their part every day to align with and progress toward the vision. This means every employee thinks about how to work toward making our 2026 Vision a reality in their role, their team, and location. The exact steps will vary from person to person, role to role, and location to location, but the steps all have one thing in common: They’re small. Imagine someone told you to walk from Boise to Salt Lake. They also said you had to complete the journey in one year. You wouldn’t just start running. You wouldn’t just sit still and assume you can start tomorrow.

You’d think about how many miles the trip is and how many miles you’d have to cover each day to achieve the goal.

Pursuing our 2026 Vision is very similar. Small, incremental steps, added up over several years, move us from

where we are today to where we need to be in the future. By the end of 2026, it must be true of FBS at every location, for every team, and for every individual that we embody the four key vision elements listed in the graphic: Safe, Wow, Guide, and Strive. These are steps we all have to take, as individuals assuming personal responsibility and working to encourage, support, and challenge those around us, to make the vision a reality. As we get into 2023, a year when we are trying to walk into a steady headwind given the stalemate in housing and concerns about a weakened economy, we have to be steadier and more resilient to continue to make forward progress. I know we can put our heads down and lean into the challenge. I’m challenging each of you to consider what progress toward our 2026 Vision looks like this calendar year, for your team and for the location you’re a part of. At FBS, we will continue to welcome the difficult work and take the narrow, uphill paths to reach destinations and heights few in our industry ever get to see or experience.

MARCH HIGH-FIVE SELECTIONS

Easy From: Jim Shaffer — Sales Specialist, Boise To: Boise Finish

was our first delivery to a new customer. I mentioned the scenario and what had happened and immediately saw the wheels turning. They reacted in record time to correct my error. It feels amazing to have a team like that to back you up. I appreciate your help!” Strive From: Ian Beane — Manager Door & Finish, Fruitland To: Cherie Littleton — Admin-Door/Finish

“ Way to go, Boise Door Shop! You guys rock, and you don’t hear it enough. We have a lot of customers out there who don’t give us feedback. And then, we have some of them who only give us negative feedback. Over the last five years, I have been hearing feedback from Larry Richardson about how we don’t build a pre-hung door right. He has a couple of TRUE CRAFTSMEN who do all of his finish work … Today, I asked them how the doors were built on this last job we just sent, LARRY RICHARDSON 25/1 BELLA TOSCANA. He said they were the BEST they have seen in 2-3 years. They all were installed with great ease, the doorstops were perfect and didn’t have to move at all, and the revels were very good. All the things they normally complain about were good. NICE JOB, PRODUCTION — YOU GUYS ROCK.”

“ I would like to give Cherie a big ol’ HIGH-FIVE for Strive. She is new(ish) to the door world, coming from various other FBS departments. She is learning that the door world is vast compared to others. Every day, her confidence is growing, and this review is a call-out to that. She helped this walking customer from start to finish, never missing a beat and finding the correct information so our production team can do what they do best. We know it takes a team, and with great team members, it helps a lot! You can see the customer was extremely happy with her and the work our door shop produced (as am I). This is what we want our fellow owners to ‘Strive’ for. Thank you, Cherie — your work is appreciated!”

Wow From: Jordan Lierz Paeth — Manager Installed Sales, DI To: Duane Dowell — Project Manager, DI

' High-Five to Duane Dowell, Project Manager for interior installed products, for wowing Solitude Homes. We received feedback from the group at Solitude that Duane is an excellent field resource and has significantly improved their experience when it comes to installing cabinets and making sure the installation process runs as smoothly as possible. Thanks to Duane for helping wow our customers!”

Safe From: Lindsay Ross — Manager, DI To: Melissa Gray — Sales Specialist

“ During our fire drill, Melissa was meeting with customers for a selection appointment. She calmly guided them out the door and asked them to remain with the group through our check-in process. With them outside, she continued her customer service and remained engaged with them through the process. Thank you, Melissa, for providing your customers with a great customer experience while keeping them safe!”

Guide From: Joey Green — Account Coordinator, Boise To: Boise Yard

“ I would like to give a High-Five to the Boise yard for their actions on Jan. 19. I made a paperwork error for a large delivery which, unfortunately,

CASEY HAZELBUSH TAKES THE HELM IN BURLEY The New GM Has Plenty of Experience

We are proud to introduce Casey Hazelbush as the new general manager of our Burley location. Casey grew up working in the building industry. He started framing with his big brother Art when he was 14 and worked as a framer for the next 10 years. Casey’s building experience continued to expand in his next position, where he worked for a builder and did everything from framing to tile. After that, he worked in the same builder’s cabinet and granite shop and was promoted from installer to supervisor. As his early employment indicates, Casey works smart and pushes himself to be successful in everything he does. It is no surprise that growth opportunities at Franklin have always found Casey. Franklin recruited Casey in 2012 when he began working for Costco. He first worked part time for FBS on the sales counter in Pocatello. One and a half years later, we asked Casey to move full time to cabinet and flooring sales. Another opportunity came knocking shortly after when we asked Casey to run Pocatello’s door shop. Casey said, “With my history of production and running shops, I jumped at the chance!” For the next five years, Casey led the charge in Pocatello’s doorshop. During this time, he immersed himself and the shop into becoming LEAN and helped his crew fully embrace

6S. Two years ago, we asked Casey to consider another opportunity and become the Eastern Idaho sales manager. Casey was a little apprehensive but said he trusted us, and if we thought he could do it, then he could do it. We had no doubt!

Casey exemplifies the opportunities available in our employee-owner culture at Franklin Building Supply. When you embrace your current role, whatever it may be, and work hard to help everyone improve, you will be noticed and presented with opportunities to grow yourself and our company! When Casey isn’t working, he enjoys rock climbing, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Casey loves spending time with his wife JessLyn, an attorney for Bannock County, and his stepson, DJ. Recently, Casey has loved his new role as a soccer dad, cheering on as his wife coaches DJ.

Congratulations, Casey, on this next step in your career with FBS!

PIVOTING TO ENHANCE OUR ESOP

Get the Facts About Finances If you have spent any time in the business world over the last few years, you have probably used and abused the word pivot a time or two. The COVID-19 pandemic, semiconductor shortages, blocked shipping canals, and other external influences have “allowed” us the opportunity to break our normal routines and workflows and examine what we were doing and why we are doing it. Your ESOP committee has been no exception, with the recent market shift allowing us the capacity to examine how the committee has functioned in years past and challenging our goals moving forward. When I joined this committee in the fall of 2022, I did what any newly committed EO champion would do — I fired up that search bar of the interwebs, ready to download every amazing factoid that WinCo, Bi- Mart, and Recology have put out throughout the years …

When the Franklin EO committee met last November, this frustration was shared amongst us all, and a pivot became obvious. There is a serious need and opportunity to focus more of our energy on creating better resources and empowering our front-line managers to champion employee-

ownership and have the tools to explain why stock in our company is worth protecting and fighting for. Stay tuned as we initiate frequent and relevant information for your huddles, and know that your GMs and front-line supervisors have our full attention this year. Additionally, we recognize that understanding the financial goals of your company begins with a healthy understanding of your own personal finances. The EO Committee and Franklin Building Supply have proudly extended our contract with Janice Purdy Pierce, our favorite financial literacy coach! Ask your managers about getting plugged into this incredible resource.

I found nothing …

The truth is that employee ownership is still pretty rare, and aside from stories about millionaire cashiers from the 2000s, good, digestible information really doesn’t exist. ESOP stock isn’t like McDonald’s stock. What does it mean to get vested? Can I cash this out or transfer it if I leave the company? Can our stock split? Who knows?

In the Spotlight

Our Boise Finish location has been lucky to have had Nickolas as a part of the team for the past four years (has it really only been four years?). As one of our Class A delivery drivers, Nickolas brings camaraderie and a positive vibe to our team, all while expertly helping our clients’ dreams come to fruition. Here at Franklin Building Supply, we hire the best, and we take great pride in each and every team member. We place a great deal of confidence and trust in our employees, and Nickolas is one of the many we are excited to showcase. For Nickolas, the idea that he is helping build up our beautiful state of Idaho is exciting and motivational and gets him out of bed and into work each morning because, let’s be honest, no matter how much you love your job, sometimes getting up in the morning can be tough! “I love being able to work with a great group of co-owners every day and changing people’s lives,” Nickolas tells us. However, IN THE SPOTLIGHT Nickolas Wegmann: One of Our Finest

challenges come along with the job, too! “The most challenging part of my day is navigating the job sites and all the traffic out there on the roads.” A large part of Nickolas’ job involves transporting material and supplies in a safe and efficient manner. For Nickolas, LEAN, a series of five principles designed to improve workplace efficiency,

means being able to route his work truck in the most efficient way possible. “It’s important that I deliver the customer’s products on time and that I am clean and efficient while we work to eliminate any downtime,” Nickolas tells us. When he isn’t working, Nickolas enjoys spending time with his family, working on projects around his house, and working in the yard. Sometimes, he enjoys just vegging out and relaxing as well. Nickolas, from the moment we welcomed you to our Franklin Building Supply family, we knew how lucky we were. We are proud to have you as part of the team.
