FINDING THE TIME TO PAY IT FORWARD MY LIFE IN PT
I’ve always wanted to be in a position to help people. Today I’m able to do just that. Through my work as a lead physical therapist at ApexNetwork PT, I make a tangible difference in our community from the ground up, and I couldn’t be prouder to be practicing right here in Beardstown. To be fortunate enough to give the gift of physical therapy in this city is a blessing I don’t take lightly. We’re a staff of simple means, but we work alongside our patients for the results they deserve through specialized programs that fit their schedules. It’s strange to think that there was a time when I wasn’t doing what I love — a time when I merely dreamed of making a real difference. Over the past 15 years as a physical therapist, I’ve made those dreams a reality. I want to thank our wonderful patients and staff, who make all this possible for so many people. I love what I do, and I love having you be a part of it. Growing up, I didn't have dreams of becoming an astronaut or a physicist. My dreams revolved around spending my days working with people who really needed my help to get back to what they love. I wanted to be a nurse for many years, but then I realized that my fear of needles wouldn’t exactly make that a cake walk. Between being
on call for 24 hours a day and having to draw blood at every turn, my interest in nursing fell. I decided on something different as I got a little older and more realistic. Honestly, before college, I’d never even heard of physical therapy. I was always involved in sports, and after spending some time on my college’s volleyball team, I became no stranger to injuries. It was during my years playing volleyball when a teammate told me how physical therapy helped them, so I took a dive and decided to learn more. I ended up going to a PT clinic to see what all the fuss was about, and I immediately fell in love with the field. After going to Washington University in St. Louis for my degree in physical therapy, I took my first job at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Luckily, it was big enough for me to rotate through all the different kinds of departments. I tried my hand at everything from orthopedic treatment to neuroscience, and I eventually worked my way up to management before realizing that being a boss wasn’t really for me. Life’s too short to bring work home from a position you don’t absolutely love. After making the jump to ApexNetwork PT, that all changed. It was a huge difference from my last position.
Although I loved the people I worked with at my old job, I now look forward to work every single day. Our smaller office gives me the opportunity to make the executive decisions that make our patients healthier and happier in less time. After spending nine years with our practice, I can safely say I’ve never looked back. Among my love for the patients, my love for the staff, and my love for the work at large, I cherish the relationships I’ve built over these years. Beardstown is a tightknit community, and we all just want the best for each other. At ApexNetwork PT, we do our best to make that happen.
