more trouble for potential attackers, while secure cloud storage in multiple locations offers peace of mind, should anything happen. Lastly, consider your employee training. Your employees may be the biggest asset to your company, but they can be some of your weakest links, too! Teach them how to identify phishing emails and other scamming basics used by hackers and provide training on the latest tools your company is using. Furthermore, consider the unique dangers of a work-from-home environment. Start with the platform or program you use to scan and find threats. For too long, IT companies and the clients they served have relied on reactive systems that detect patterns. This often creates a “too little, too late” problem for many SMBs. Instead, artificial intelligence and machine learning technology can actually respond to potential threats before they enter your system. It’s more predictable and secure. Similarly, multifactor authentication can create

As the world’s economy continues to globalize through digital connections, hackers are doing the same. This past July, the Russian-based hacking gang REvil demanded $70 million in cryptocurrency to unlock data from multiple organizations across 17 countries, making this attack the largest in ransomware history. (REvil may be recognizable because of their $11 million extortion scheme from meat- processor JBS just after Memorial Day 2021.) This may seem like a “big fish” problem, but in recent years, scammers have found the easy targets are the small fries — small- to medium-size businesses (SMBs). While SMBs continue to rely on reactive antivirus software, a lack of proper security is costing the average business $713,300 per attack.
