HARMONSON HEADLINES YOUR GUIDE TO PERSONAL INJURY IN THE BORDERLAND NOVEMBER 2022

For many sports fans, the onset of fall means only one thing: It’s football season! I come from a long line of Texas Tech Red Raiders fans. My grandfather was actually an original member of an organization called The Saddle Tramps on Texas Tech University’s campus. The Saddle Tramps is the group that whacks cowbells during the games wearing red TTU shirts and black boots. They’re still going strong after more than 70 years! I’ve grown up rooting for the Red Raiders; they’ve always been my team! Both my grandparents — on both sides — went to Texas Tech, and so did my brother, sister, and I. My parents both went to UTEP but ended up in Lubbock and attended Texas Tech as well. So, we have a big Tech family, and my son is getting to the age where he’s about to graduate and go on to college. But, surprisingly enough, if I even mention the thought of Texas Tech, he drops to the floor and says there’s no way he is going! He’s breaking the legacy a bit, but I’ll be proud of him no matter where he goes. My grandad had football tickets every year when we were kids growing up in Lubbock — right on the 50-yard line. So, growing up, he would buy four tickets and invite three people along with my brother and me, and when we got to the gate, we would stand behind him, and he’d give the gatekeeper a wink, and we’d all somehow get in! That was back in the day, so it was a little easier to get away with that compared to now. But we’d always get in. They used to have this section in the north end zone where you could sit out in the grass, and my brother and I would collect those cool Texas Tech cups and bring them home. Whenever we came back with some, my mom asked why we had so many cups, but it was just something my brother and I did and enjoyed. pounds in ninth grade, so I was rail thin back then. All of the other local kids would come to the games, and it was one big, fun party.

At halftime, everyone would cross the street and head over to Godfather’s Pizza or Burger King to grab a bite and a Coke. One football game, I saw this big guy running right toward me as I walked over at halftime. I guess some Evans Junior High guys had caught wind that some of the guys from my school, Hutch, were talking to the girls from their school, and they weren’t too happy. I had never seen this guy before, but he was quite literally the size of a college football player, and he tried to tackle me! I managed to duck under him and, luckily, the police got everything under control! It was just hilarious, though, because I wasn’t trying to get tackled by him. I had season tickets to the football games back in 2008, which was the last year Tech had a really great team. Tech had one of the best games in college football when Michael Crabtree caught the ball in the very last second of the game, and we beat the University of Texas! We wouldn’t get to relive a Tech victory at home over UT until just last month when we beat UT in a dramatic overtime that will live in the Texas football history highlight reel for eternity. As we enter the fall season and Thanksgiving, I give thanks for my youth and my Red Raiders and the education provided to me there. My wish for you is a joyful Thanksgiving season with your family and that your favorite team will always be victorious!

The cool thing was to sit in the grass section when I was in junior high and hang out with everyone. I was 6 feet, 3 inches tall, and weighed about 125

A CRISIS ON ROAD WE MUST ADDRES PAYING TRIBUTE ON WORLD DA

As we prepare for our Thanksgiving feasts, Thursday night football games, and Black Friday shopping, take some time to show gratitude for those around you and for what you have. Here are a few ways to practice gratitude this month. Appreciate everything. Get into the habit of being grateful for the little things in your life. It can be easy to acknowledge the “big” things, but nothing is too small to be thankful for. You can be grateful the weather is nice and sunny, that you received the package you’ve been waiting for, or that you got out of bed today. Don’t leave out anything when practicing gratitude. Practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present and aware of what’s happening around you. So, instead of being

We dedicate the third Sunday of November to remembering those who were seriously injured or lost their lives in vehicle crashes. Every year, millions of victims are added to the list of individuals killed and those who were injured due to road traffic accidents.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a high-profile global event to acknowledge the suffering of all affected victims, families, and communities. We also pay tribute to emergency crews, police, and medical professionals who dedicate their lives to serving others and dealing with the traumatic aftermath of traffic accidents.

The event was initiated by RoadPeace in 1993 and has been observed and promoted worldwide by many governments,

overwhelmed by what you need to do tomorrow or next week, focus on the present moment and enjoy the time you spend solo or with your loved ones. Live in the moment and take one day at a time. Tomorrow will surely come, and you only have a limited amount of time in the present. Celebrate your challenges. Sometimes struggles and battles in our lives can weigh us down. But when you persevere and continue to push forward, you will find success. Challenges help you improve your abilities and resilience, so celebrate the progress you’ve made. Showing gratitude for challenges and negative experiences allows us to acknowledge humility and appreciate growth in our lives. Keep a journal. Writing down the things you’re grateful for will remind you of all the great things you have when other things aren’t going so well. So, keep a journal about what you’re grateful for each day or week — even if it’s just small things at first. Your perspective on life will change, and it will get easier to see the good things and to feel grateful for things you were likely overlooking. Showing gratitude is something we should do every day, all throughout the year — not just during the holidays. So, try to practice mindfulness and gratitude using these tips! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

international agencies, and groups such as the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR), the International Road Victims’ Partnerships (IRVP), and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety. This endeavor has reached most corners of the world to promote action to save lives and advocate for better support for victims and bereaved families.

A general rule of thumb when operating a motor vehicle is that the driver must have a valid license. Those who drive without a license or with a suspended or revoked license are putting themselves and others on the road at risk. But, unfortunately, some people still break the law and drive without a proper license. Why do people drive without licenses? Most people who choose to drive without a license fall into the following categories: • Teenagers who haven’t obtained a license or those below the minimum age requirements to apply for a driver’s license • Seniors who may have failed a driving test due to age-related conditions such as visual or cognitive impairment • Individuals who had their licenses revoked due to medical conditions like seizures or because of careless or reckless driving (e.g., DUIs) An individual can have different types of licenses, and their specific rules allow us to use them when an unlicensed person negligently causes an accident. Types of Licenses Class C is the most common type of license and is typically needed when a person is driving a personal car or truck. If you’re driving a “normal” vehicle, you probably have a Class C license! The Class C license holder is allowed to drive: • A vehicle or combination of vehicles (like a truck and travel trailer) • A single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of less than 26,001 pounds towing a trailer not to exceed 10,000 pounds, and GVWR or a farm trailer with a GVWR that does not exceed 20,000 pounds The Class M license allows a driver to operate a motorcycle or moped. A person must pass a motorcycle operator training course approved by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT WITH AN UNLICENSED DRIVER HOW A CAR ACCIDENT ATTORNEY CAN HELP YOU!

DWAYS THAT SS TOGETHER AY OF REMEMBRANCE

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a division of the Department of Transportation, estimated 42,915 deaths in motor vehicle crashes in 2021, a 10.5% increase from the 38,824 fatalities in 2020. These deaths include pedestrians, cyclists, and others who may have been in the vehicles. Last year was one of the most deadly years for New Mexico roadways. There were 470 traffic fatalities — the highest in the previous decade — a significant increase from the 425 deaths in 2019. Speeding, aggressive driving, and distracted driving cause most of these traffic accidents. It is not only up to the government to help improve these statistics; the solution is also dependent upon us. By following and obeying traffic laws and eliminating distractions, we can address this problem and potentially save the lives of many. Here at Harmonson Law, we want to thank those who serve others and pay tribute to the individuals who lost their lives or were seriously injured due to traffic incidents.

America’s 5 Best Ski Resorts

EXPERIENCE FRESH POWDER AND GREAT VIEWS

TOP 5 SKI RESORTS TO CROSS OFF YOUR BUCKET LIST

Temperatures are dropping and snow is falling in some parts of the country, so it’s time for some winter fun! Whether you ski, snowboard, or just enjoy the snow, here are some of the best ski resorts to check out this ski season! Steamboat Springs, Colorado A little less glitzy than some of the other popular ski resorts and towns in Colorado, Steamboat Springs is extremely family-friendly with a Western vibe. Because Steamboat is tucked away in the northwest corner of Colorado, the area catches snow from both Utah and Wyoming, which means you can expect some of the best skiing powder. Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana While Whitefish Mountain Resort was originally a sleepy, quiet, and remote ski resort, it has gained popularity over the past few years, but it still remains an under-the-radar ski destination with friendly locals and smaller crowds. For beautiful, lush Montana views and no ski lift lines, Whitefish is a must!

Mad River Glen, Vermont For an authentic, deep-mountain experience, Mad River Glen is considered the best skiing mountain in the East. One of the best features of the resort is that it has single-chair chairlifts — and no snowboarders! The runs are long and the sights are gorgeous while providing an amazing ski run, throwback style! Aspen, Colorado Aspen just had to make this list! This incredibly popular ski resort has four different mountains, providing a wide range of terrains for all different skill levels. The ski resort town is fun, developed, and exciting as well. Deer Valley Resort, Utah A ski-only resort, Deer Valley is a quaint ski town with legendary customer service and unbelievable Utah powder. It should be noted that the chairlifts are speedy and efficient, and the trails are well-groomed. Lift lines are nonexistent, making for an exclusive and remote experience!
