NUGGETS

"Our Problems—Our Estimate" Sometimes we may feel that the task before us is far greater than we can possibly accomplish. Yet, God. has given us the indwelling 'presence of His Holy Spirit to do that which is beyond our own strength or wisdom. Let us turn from ourselves and our tasks to one of the smaller crea tion of our God, for we need to learn by contrasts, quite often. For in stance, the common flea is able to jump one hundred times as high as his own head. Were an Olympic champion jumper to do as well pro portionately, he would clear the Washington Monument a t o n e bound with some eighty feet to spare. The animal kingdom is re plete with such illustrations. Now if God can, and does, do such mirac ulous things for these small crea tions of our God. for we need to learn lies in His power to do for His chil dren? “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles: they shall run, and not be weary: and they shall walk, and not faint:’ * * * "Some people use religion like a bus, they ride on it only when it's going their way!" * "God Pity the One" God pity him who lives for self— That one who does not share The griefs and joys of other men, That one who does not care. God pity him who does not give To others when in need; God pity him who works and plans For only selfish greed. God pity him who lives for self, When the Master he shall see, And Jesus says, "A s you've done to them. You've done it unto Me." * *

"The Eleventh Hour" If you were permitted to see only one person before passing into the presence of God—who would it be? Dr. Phillips Brooks, a great min ister and Bible expositor, was ill and not expected to recover. No visitors were permitted to see him. Robert Ingersoll, an agnostic un aware of this fact, called at the hospital. There he was told that no visitors were permitted. However, the nurse said that she would tell Dr. Brooks of his (Mr. Ingersoll’s call). When Dr. Brooks was told that Robert Ingersoll had come, the minister insisted Mr. Ingersoll be called back. As he entered the room, he spoke gratefully of his privilege and said, “I appreciate this very much, but why do you see me when you deny yourself to others much closer in your friendships?” A smile crossed the dying man’s face: “Well, you see I feel confident I’ll be see ing most of my friends in the next world, but this may be my last op portunity to see you.” How many people prolong a deci sion for Christ thinking at the eleventh hour they will do some thing. The trouble is, they die at “10:30 o’clock.” God’s Word warns, “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1).
