Each October, we come together to raise awareness about breast cancer, honor those affected, and support ongoing efforts of research, prevention, and care. It’s a time to stand in solidarity as well as take action, like sharing resources, scheduling screenings, and encouraging our mothers, aunts, sisters, daughters, and friends to do the same. Whether it’s through education, early detection, community involvement, or fundraising, every act makes a difference. In 2024, Karen Wehner and Kris Ward shared their personal experiences with breast cancer. Karen, who retired a couple short months ago after 40 wonderful years, remains an inspiration with her Warrior Thriver attitude. Visit the links above to learn more about their stories of strength.

SALSA PERFORMANCE & CLASS On September 25th, the Irvine office had the special opportunity to experience a live salsa performance to celebrate the iconic dance. Salsa was born in the 1960s and 70s in New York City, blending Cuban son, Afro-Cuban rhythms, Puerto Rican beats, and jazz. Today, salsa is danced in over 100 countries, showing how Latin culture has inspired communities worldwide. Salsa is about connection and storytelling, and for many Latinos, salsa is a way to stay connected to their roots, honor traditions, and share culture with new generations. Beyond culture, salsa is shown to reduce stress, improve heart health, and build community bond, making it as good for the soul as it is for the body.
DIEGO RIVERA PRESENTATION On October 2nd, we were joined by Nicole Martinez-LeGrand from the Indiana Historical Society who presented a retrospective of the work and life of Diego Rivera (1886–1957), Mexico’s master muralist whose monumental works brought the story of a modern, post- revolutionary Mexico to the world. Rivera’s murals, created across Mexico and the United States, elevate everyday people—workers, families, and communities—while exploring identity, industry, and social change. Rivera’s work offers a powerful lens on belonging, dignity at work, and collective progress, as seen below in The Making of a Fresco, Showing The Building of a City (1931).

The Anatomy of a Photoshoot
From September 8-11, Sarah Nelson and Samantha Rigdon captured the stunning October launch products with a local photographer in Grand Rapids, MI. This launch shines a spotlight on Silica, including new colorways of Silica Leather and Silica Etch. In upholstery, we’re introducting Blueprint, an Alliance-focused geometric jacquard inspired by architectural forms. 01 Prepare the shot list, order material, and source props On the wallcovering side, we have a range of exciting new patterns such as Empress Filigree (a silk-embossed botanical damask), Solara (a bold, scalloped seascape), and Simply Geo (a diamond motif designed to pair with Simply Sheer), among others. These October products are sure to make a statement in our upcoming projects.
03 Shoot day(s)
PRO TIP: FOR A CHANGE OF SCENERY, TAKE THE PARTY OUTSIDE! (LADDER OPTIONAL)
Photoshoots typically span 1-3 days, depending on the number of products and the complexity of the setups. While a detailed shot can take a couple hours, simpler shots (prepped in advance on day 1) move much faster. For every image, Sarah and Samantha carefully style the products, while the photographer tweaks the lighting and color to capture the signature Momentum look and feel.
Once the product and design teams share the pattern list and campaigns, Sarah gets to work creating the shot list, including inspiration images and prop ideas, which Samantha helps source both locally and online. Sarah calculates the yardage needed for each shot and places the material orders. Since she works from home, those endless rolls and boxes tend to fill up every corner of her home office, basement, and garage until it’s time for the shoot!
02 Prep day
04 Image selection
Sarah and Samantha dedicate a full prep day to laying out the shot list, unpacking boxes and rolls, and pairing products to match each shot. Many shots require cutting, folding, taping, or rolling material to get them just right. For this shoot, they also partnered with Leland Furniture and Grand Rapids Chair, showcasing our textiles on their furniture pieces. Win-win!
Throughout the shoot, Sarah and Samantha help select images in real time, then end each day by reviewing the full set of shots. The photographer works his magic and delivers the final images to the team for our website, social media, advertising, print materials, and much more. Keep an eye out for these beauties in the coming weeks!
THAT’S A WRAP!
PRO TIP: FOR THE PERFECT SILICA SAND PILE, ALL YOU NEED IS A BOWL FULL OF SAND AND A SERVING SPOON!

NOW LISTENING: METROPOLIS DEEP GREEN PODCAST
Grab your cup of coffee or set out for a walk and settle into nature while listening to the recent Deep Green podcast episode titled “Fractals: Nature’s Healing Patterns in Design.” During NeoCon 2025, host Avi Rajagopal sat down with Dr. Richard Taylor of Fractals Research and Anastasia and Martin Lesjak of 13&9 Design to discuss the history and significance of fractals, how they relate to human- centered design, and the partnership they built with Momentum. When collaborating on the three wallcovering patterns (Fractal River, Fractal Bark, and Fractal Moss), they felt a deep responsibility to provide science-informed design that reduces stress, calms the mind, and connects society as a whole. As Martin lovingly said, “the rest is fractal design history.”
