Floridians know how much the sun can take a toll on our bodies — and our banks. As temperatures rise and we seek cooler places to hide, our air conditioning units must work overtime to fight off the heat. This can be especially problematic if the sun beats down on one particular side of your house. The sun’s constant rays will cause windows and walls to become super-heated, ultimately forcing your AC to work harder.
THE POWER OF SHADE How Planting a Tree Can Help You Save on Your Energy Bill
Luckily, we have a way to stop the harsh sun from ever reaching your house. You can reduce your AC costs majorly by planting trees to create an energy-saving landscape!
Planting trees around your house can help you save money year-round. Trees near your home eliminate super-heated walls
and windows by providing shade and cooling the air around them. In the winter, these trees will help protect you from whipping winds and reduce the energy needed to heat your house.
A LESSON IN RELAXATION TEDDY’S PAW-SPECTIVE
Now, I like a new friend as much as the next dog, but my whole family loves Venus, and she gets all the attention. She was everywhere I looked!
The next day, Dad came down the stairs and put his headphones on, and we started our walk. I will be
Greetings, newsletter friends! It’s me, Teddy! I’m here to inform you that I’ve been working on my chill lately.
honest; I wasn’t feeling very Zen. The grass seemed boring, and the lizards looked less tasty, er, I mean relaxing.
You see, I’ve been building my relaxation skills on walks with my dad. He puts on his headphones and plays classical music, while I like to become one with nature. Sometimes rolling in the grass makes me feel connected to Mother Earth. Putting a lizard in my mouth helps too, but my dad doesn’t really like that strategy.
I looked back at Dad, ready to call in our chill time early, when I noticed he actually did look relaxed. I realized he had been letting me lead the way and enjoyed following along on our walk. Now Venus couldn’t do that! The world perked up again, I gave the grass a good roll, and my chill was restored! I learned that there are things I can do that Venus can’t, like lead a relaxation walk (I’m a master in chill, after all). When I looked at it that way, I decided the chill thing would be to give Venus a chance. It turns out Venus is actually pretty cool. She likes to stay up all night and exercise on her wheel, so sometimes, we’ll hang out into the wee hours of the morning. We even share the couch when it’s TV time.
Needless to say, I was starting to feel really relaxed. Zen was all around me! Until she showed up … Venus.
My chill was tested the day Ella brought a cage into the living room. She set it down, and my heart raced as I peered inside. There she was, a little black ball of fur. A hamster is what the kids call her.
So folks, learn from me, the master in relaxation: Take things as they come and figure out what only you can do. Oh, and maybe try putting a lizard in your mouth too.
