Australian Marine Industry Awards 2022 recognises continued growth and development
The 2022 Australian Marine Industry Awards organised and hosted by the Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) were held in May 2022 at the Southport Yacht Club on the Gold Coast in Queensland. These prestigious awards recognised and awarded the outstanding achievers across industry sectors in 2021 with the presentation on the night of eight highly competitive categories.
The Commercial Awards offered two categories, with the first, “The 2022 Commercial Marine Project / Design or Manufacturer of the Year’ presented Marine to Spear Green Design for its impressive work on two new vessels that will service the Isles of Scilly and designing the marine interior for a fleet of 12 new build vessels to service wind farms in SE Asian and Europe. The award was accepted by Jeremy Spear, Director of Spear Green Design and proudly presented by Brenton Fischer of Sydney City Marine. ‘The 2022 Commercial Marine Service Provider of the Year’, was won by The Yard Brisbane, with the judges impressed by the facility’s ability to support a myriad of commercial clients, enabling them to deliver and maintain their high quality of service to the Australian transportation, logistics and marine industry, both locally in Queensland, and nationally. The award was presented by Martin Jufors, Vice President, Marine Sales of Volvo Penta and awarded to Mark Phelps, International Business Relationship Manager. ‘The 2022 Australian Exporter of the Year’ award went to Fliteboard reflecting an extraordinary success story which has seen an increase of more than double in export sales and export revenue growth during 2021 compared to the previous year. The award was received by David Trewern, founder of the Bryon Bay-based company and was presented by Ryan Carmichael, Chief
Operating Officer, The Whiskey Project Group. Fliteboard was also voted the winner for a second year running of ‘The 2022 Marketing Strategy of the Year’ award. The award reflects Fliteboard’s innovative marketing strategies to promote eFoils globally. Barry Teeling, Development Director of Mulpha, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show presented the 2022 Marketing Strategy of the Year award. ‘The 2022 Apprentice of the Year Award’ presented by TAFE Queensland rewards the winner with a return trip to the world’s largest marine equipment trade show, METSTRADE in Amsterdam. This year’s proud recipient was Blake Frazer from Onboard Engineering. He is currently a third year Mobile Plant Mechanic. Blake Frazer received his award from Simon Hislop, Director Business Development from TAFE Queensland and last year’s Apprentice of the Year, Robert Smith from Superior Jetties. The final award of the night, ‘The 2022 Marine Industry Champion’ to Wes Moxey from Riviera. Wes Moxey began his career in the marine industry as an apprentice shipwright for Carrington Slipways in the late 1970s. Wes then joined Riviera in 1982 as a shipwright, just two years after the company was founded. His career quickly progressed, leading him to become CEO of Riviera in 1998. Wes established Riviera’s award-winning apprenticeship program, with Riviera
currently training 107 apprentices on-site as the company works to meet global demand for its world-class motor yachts. He accepted this award from Steve Fisher, Director of international Business, Rivergate Marina and Shipyard. The Australian Marine Industry Awards has become an important date in the year’s calendar and reflects the growing development of the marine industry for both large companies and single business owners alike. AIMEX, Superyacht Australia and the Australian Commercial Marine Group acknowledge and thank the judging panel for the 2022 Australian Marine Industry Awards for their time and dedication.
