CASSELMAN I Lors d’une conférence de presse vendredi dernier, le député fédéral de Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Pierre Le m ieu x , a dévoilé qu’une so mm e de 169 909$ sera versé à la m unicipalité de La Nation dans le cadre du Fonds fédéral de ta x e sur l’essence. Cet octroi, le deuxième que reçoit La Na- tion cette année, a comme objectif d’aider les municipalités à améliorer leurs infra- structures locales importantes. Les catégo- ries visent les infrastructures liées à l’eau potable, aux eaux usées, à la gestion des déchets solides, au transport en commun, aux systèmes de production d’énergie, aux routes et ponts locaux et au renforcement des capacités. Jusqu’à maintenant, les con- cessions 21 et 8, la route 700 ouest et le che- min Caledonia ont tous subi une remise en forme. Reste à remplacer la conduite princi- pale des égouts fluviaux dans le village de Saint-Isidore et la rénovation de quelques routes, travaux qui seront complétés d’ici 2015. «Ce fonds constitue une mesure con- crète pour répondre à l’important besoin de soutien des municipalités qui peuvent maintenant établir leur propres priorités, a indiqué le maire de La Nation, François St- Amour. Cela favorise les améliorations des infrastructures à l’échelle locale et la planifi- cation à long terme.» Cette année, c’est un total de 339 818$ que La Nation a reçu du Fonds fédéral de taxe sur l’essence. Entre 2006 et 2014, la municipalité de La Nation aura reçu 2 220
Au Canada, 28% des fonds ont été con- sacrés à l’amélioration des routes locales et près de 25% l’ont été dans des projets rela- tifs à l’eau potable et aux eaux usées, a tenu à préciser le député. En Ontario, ce sont 4,7 milliards $ qui ont été distribués depuis le début du programme. Quant aux Comtés unis de Prescott et Russell, ils ont reçu 1 236 203 $ en 2013. Sail boat abandoned Constable Lise Durocher of the Hawkes- bury O.P.P. is looking for the owner of a 21- foot sailboat that was left at the municipal wharf in Hawkesbury. The sailboat was apparently docked at the marina on John Street for more than a month. Anyone with information about the ownership of the vessel is asked to contact Durocher at 613- 632-2729 or 1-888-310-1122. Drug charge On December 5, Constable Jonathan Bouchard intercepted a 2007 Honda Civic on County Road 17 in Alfred-Plantagenet for speeding. At the same time, the officer discovered more than 0 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. Danny Day, 25, of Alfred- Plantagenet, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis resin, speeding and driving without a licence.
A 75-year-old Hawkesbury m an has been following a Dece m ber 6 accident in which a 16-year-old pedestrian suffered m inor injuries. Leonard Gray was charged with driving while his blood alcohol level was more than 80 mgs, reports the Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police detachment. The accident occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on Spence Avenue. The investigation by Constables Anne-Christine Gauthier and Walter Vandergoten found that a 2012 Maz- da 3 struck the pedestrian who had been walking on the south side of Spence. The car pushed the girl onto the curb. Gray was released on a promise to appear in L’Orignal court January 15. Break and enter Constable Jocelyn Lessard is investigating a break and enter that occurred at a Pattee
Road residence in Champlain December 5. The owner had returned home after working overnight to find that someone had broken into her house by breaking in a backdoor. Stolen were a gold ring with a red ruby and diamonds around the ruby, contained in a burgundy ring box, a silver school ring from Vaudreuil Secondary High School with the initials ESV, a small amount of cash and a dark pink denim wallet containing a small amount of money, bank and identifi- cation cards. Police are looking for a silver/ grey SUV or pick-up truck as being possibly linked to the theft. 17 charges During the week of December 2 to De- cember 9, officers responded to 226 occur- rences and laid 17 charges. Two incidents of assault were reported.
