Michel Bénac, du groupe Swing, sera d’ailleurs le parrain de cette première édition. «Ce spectacle-là est tellement important, a confié Michel Benac. Ça va être le feu sacré pour ces jeunes-là. Ils vont embarquer et ça va possiblement déterminer les prochaines Véronique DiCaire, les prochains artistes qui vont nous représenter dans l’avenir.» Le projet s’appuie sur un partenariat entre le Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO) et le Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO), l’Académie canadienne et internationale de hockey, la Fédération de la jeunesse francophone (FESFO) et
le projet Élargir l’espace francophone . «L’objectif du projet vise à découvrir les talents variés des élèves de la région et à valoriser les élèves ambassadeurs de la francophonie», a expliqué Daniel-Pierre Bourdeau, représentant de la région Est d’ Élargir l’espace francophone . Dix écoles secondaires francophones de la région seront invitées à participer au projet. Le 24 avril, durant le spectacle, chaque école présentera deux prestations d’une durée d’environ cinq minutes chacune. Le spectacle sera d’abord présenté devant les élèves au cours de la journée. En soirée, à son tour, la communauté sera invitée à venir admirer les talents locaux. À souligner,
toutefois, que l’événement n’est pas une compétition, ni un concours. «Ce projet ne se veut pas un concours. On offre un plateau à nos jeunes pour faire valoir leurs talents devant un auditoire de 2000 spectateurs scolaires et une prestation communautaire en soirée», a confié Daniel-Pierre Bourdeau. De son côté, Alexandre Sabourin, élève de 12 e année de l’École secondaire catholique L’Escale de Rockland, s’est dit choyé d’avoir la chance de participer à ce genre d’événement. «Moi, ce que j’aime c’est la guitare, et c’est vraiment agréable de pouvoir m’exprimer par la musique sur une grande scène», a-t-il affirmé. Il s’agit, bien sûr, que du début des préparatifs pour le grand jour du spectacle. Bientôt, une section de la page Web de la FESFO, au www.fesfo.ca, sera dédiée aux événements d’«Élève ton talent». «Nous avons tous un défi maintenant et c’est de parler de l’événement, a confié M. Bourdeau. Nous vous invitons à claironner haut et fort cette initiative.»

Gingerbread house contest Five high schools will be vying for hon- ours at the third annual Best Gingerbread House Competition at the Vankleek Hill Farmers Market, Saturday, December 14 at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute. The de- fending champions from École secondaire catholique de Plantagenet will be compet- ing against St. Francis Xavier High School of Hammond, École secondaire publique L’Académie de La Seigneurie of Casselman, VCI and École secondaire catholique Le Relais of Alexandria. Entries will be on dis- play as of 9 a.m. Awards will be awarded at 11 a.m. by judges. Five prizes of cookware will be awarded each school’s culinary pro- gram.
