When he is not shoeing horses, blacksmith Patrick Taylor, of St-Eugène, demon- strates his more creative side, forging ironwork into functional and decorative pieces. He was among those selling wares at a craft sale held last weekend at the Dunvegan Recreation Association hall.
Carolyn Barrett, of St-Isidore, is one of the regular vendors at Pen- ny’s Market where last Saturday she was offering up a full menu of delicacies during a Christmas Craft Fair-Christkindl Market at Penny’s Market at McCrimmon. Right, Jean- nine Schubert, of Dunvegan, was kept busy greeting shoppers at the Christmas Craft Fair-Christkindl Market held at Penny’s Market at McCrimmon Saturday. The event was so successful organizers are considering stag- ing a similar event near the end of December.

Student trustee protégé dropped BROCKVILLE | The student trustee protégé post at the Upper Canada District School Board has been eliminated after trustees decided it was not fulfilling its mandate. Members also felt that, with the recent changes to the Student Senate, the student trustee is being offered enough mentoring, support and training to fulfill the role without the backup of a protégé. “Basically, the position was created a few years ago to ensure some continuity to the role of student trustee,” explained First Vice Chair Jeff McMillan, who proposed the pro- tégé position be eliminated. “The idea was that the protégé would follow the student trustee to some of their meetings, gain some experience and then through the election process be selected as the student trustee for the following year. But in the last few years, that just hasn’t happened.” Instead, the position has been contested in recent years, and a different student trustee has been selected instead of the student who initially served as protégé. Trustees also agreed with McMillan’s suggestion that the second position was not needed because with new technology, such as social media and the board’s new Lync videoconferencing system, it is much easier for the student trustee to keep in touch with students across the board.
