Careers in Sports at Dean

Do you feel compelled to coach a sports team or want to oversee a recreational facility? The Athletic Coaching and Recreation Management program at Dean will allow you to combine your passion for sports with the skills it takes to be a leader. Coaches today do much more than just run plays. The best coaches are mentors and educators who inspire players to reach both their personal and athletic goals. In the athletic coaching track, you’ll learn and apply skills to be a sought-after coach. These include management, strategic planning, ethics, and psychology. As a manager of a recreational facility, you must have expertise in leading an organization and be a capable multi-tasker. You’ll study business management and leadership practices, as well as experiential learning concepts to help enhance your skills in management, programming, and group dynamics. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get real-world experience through internships, like working with the community at the YMCA or designing practice sessions and workouts with the coaching staff of one of our 16 Division III athletic teams. You will also network with professionals in the field, such as the Providence Bruins , the New England Revolution , and the New England Patriots .

“A Dean College education extends well beyond the classroom, fostering character development, providing hands-on experience, and cultivating lifelong connections. As an alumnus, I can personally attest to the significant impact Dean College had on my journey to becoming a successful coach, communicator, and leader. After earning my law degree and spending years in litigation, I am now honored to return to my alma mater, where I lead Dean’s athletic and recreation programs. ”
