WHY WE PLAY
The fabric of Great Meadow has been woven by the brave men and women who have served our country. Our founder, Arthur “Nick” Arundel, was a proud U.S. Marine, and many of our founding members, board members, and supporters have worn the uniform across every branch of the armed forces. Polo is deeply embedded in military history , once used as a training tool to develop the horsemanship, strategy, and teamwork essential to the battlefield. From cavalry regiments to modern-day competitions, the sport has long been a symbol of discipline, courage, and camaraderie - qualities that mirror the service and sacrifice of our armed forces.
The Veterans Cup: Polo with Purpose is a celebration of courage, community, and commitment. Held annually on Veterans Day weekend, this signature event unites military service, equestrian sport, and charitable impact in support of those who served. The Veterans Cup was created to honor our founder’s legacy and to celebrate those whose service and dedication helped build Great Meadow into what it is today.
