Pumped! Hands on hearts
DISSECTION Year 6 had the exciting opportunity to dissect a real lamb's heart. Whilst they thought we were joking at first, the reality soon hit them when they knew we were being serious and the hearts started to be delivered to their desks! So, they kitted themselves up with their safety gear and began to work! First, they labelled the external structures of the heart and spotted the 'aorta' and the 'superior vena cava' instantly! They were huge! Once the labels were complete, the fun part could commence - the dissection! They found the left and right ventricles, atrium, valves as well as the heart strings! They even put their fingers through the veins and arteries to understand the blood flow around the heart! What a better way to learn about the heart - than actually having a real one to dissect! A job well done Year 6!
